Any plans on making a SS for the different tranny setup (reverse on opposite side) in the 09 RX8?

I believe he's referring to the 09 transmission being of a totally different make. Reverse is on the left.

I'll have to see one and then decide if we want to make a kit. Maybe it will be perfect from the factory.

It appears to be the same trans as in the current Miata MX-5. If so you'd have a ton of competition but also a very large market...

Just got my short shifter on friday.. easy install, and great feeling product. However, due to how much faster shifting seems to be, I'm wondering if the shifter causes additional wear on the transmission/synchros compared to the stock one (I'm out of warranty). Anyone know if there have been any issues, or is there is anything I should be concerned about?

Also, I've noticed that 6th gear doesn't always want to engage now. Anyone have any issues with this?

Hey guys,

I got my RP shifter way back in 2005, when it first debuted... has there been any significant changes or upgrades to the part since then? Not that I've got anything hinky going on with mine, I'm just curious if I need to be up to date. It may be just my perception, but it has a felt a little more rough than normal.

Thanks.

I think all the Delrin ones have been replaced long ago.
You should check anyway by removing the shifter and inspecting the lower bushing or cracks. If it is Delrin it is black and Kevlar it is buff.

If it has any cracks return it to me and we will replace it. Ditto if it is Delrin.

Yea, I've never replaced or applied a new sleeve to mine, but will check this weekend and get back to you.

The piece you are speaking of is the red circled area, correct?

Shoulda known it would be you.
Do you have a life anyplace else?
Does your wife ever miss you?
Did you notice you have kids running around the house?
You just thought those were short people visiting your wife, right?

Charlie already shot to 14000 post. I have to lift my game now

Hey Richard, I am about to buy a Mazda 2 (Demio). A small car to get to work and back in the slight of increasing oil prices. So the rotary is limited on track days or weekends.

Any short shifter for my little 2 (Demio)?

I don't even know what they look like.
I might be looking at the Miata soon. Does anyone make a shifter for those?
Been told the 2009 Rx8 will have a new gearbox.
Someone said it was the Miata box but I wonder if that is strong enough?
Anyone down under know about this?
