my understanding is that this increase in power is not under the curve but at the top end. Where that 1st starts is probaly after the last intake valve opens say--around 7200K or so. But they have increased the redline to 9.3. Now instead of that nearly flat little end on the dyno sheet--you will instead have a nice power increase. This will cause some differance in the way the car is driven on the track(at least by me). It also will mean I am going to have to watch my temps on the track more. It also may mean an increase in fuel stavation issues in those high G left sweepers since people will want to use ALL of that power band. Most of us on the track now I believe are shifting at around 8.5K or so as there was no advantage to wind her on out to 9K--until this flash. Such is advancement!

The gain is nice and smooth. It makes the gain a bit deceiving as it transitions into the the added power aera very seamlessly. It's actually kind of hard to tell it's there except for the fact that power just doesn't fall off as soon.

In the past week, I've learned there are SEVERAL companies coming out with flashes. I think now its just a waiting game. Wait till the end of the year to see what develops.

hogcar, Trey Cobb has a rotary background. He used to work with Chris and Ari @ RP in Texas, as well as Cam (Pettit racing).

I don't anticipate any issues but without having a FI RX-8 that would be difficult to determine absolutely. We have the ability currently to recalibrate any of the factory sensors if necessary. Recalibrating things like temperature sensors usually isn't necessary but recalibrating the Mass Air Flow sensor is normally a requirement when using aftermarket intake systems. This is due to the fact the MAF sensor is placed in a new housing and the air flow and diameter of the housing is normally not identical to stock.
For costs, the AccessPORT itself runs around $650 for most applications. That does not allow end-user tuning or changes to the calibration files themselves. If you'd like that function, you need to acquire the StreetTUNER software add-on in addition to the AccessPORT. At that point you can make any changes you want whenever you want to, as often as you'd like. Currently the cost of the add-on software (StreetTUNER) is $195. These prices are based on the Subaru world but if we're able to keep them close to the same that means for ~$845 you can tune your own PCM, have full datalogging capability, turn on/off any DTC codes, read/clear any DTC code with the AccessPORT, datalog any parameter with the AccessPORT, share calibrations with other StreetTUNER users, etc. Also, while not confirmed we are anticipating the ability to add some level of Realtime tuning capability to the ECU which will allow tuning changes to be made on the fly while the engine is running. For those parameters that cannot be changed in real-time, the reflash time is well under 1 minute. A few seconds in most cases.
Hope that helps answer you question. Again please note we are still in the very beginnings of the development process. We don't want anyone's expectations being set unnecessarily high for a quick release. There is a LOT of work to be done yet.

RG--good to hear. I didnt really want a v tech type of thing surge. Smooth is good for the track and everywhere really.
It is surprising how much track oil/coolant temps are affected by that extra 1K of usuable power in our hot section of the country(Georgia). I had my car dialed in for my area tracks. This changes everything. It's better, but now I anticipate i will have to re-dial and sort some. Price for progress.
It is interesting that Mazda changed the language from 04 to-05 yrs. I wonder what the reason was? Sure would increase cost of mantaing the line. You would think they would not want that.

I drove one of the beta cars with the RB flash last week and was impressed with how smooth it was throughout the RPM range, it pulls the same all the way through.

If this thing could turn off catless CEL, gain some RPMs, and gain 20 whp in conjunction with a midpipe over stock, i would buy it. I wouldnt buy any other 1-2 hp junk.

Instead of waiting I think I will go with a proven company with a proven record over MANY years both on and off the race track. I will gladly take the gains NOW and enjoy them especially at this price.
