I bet most rx8's would be about 200whp with the right ECU flash.

ah i see now- you want to control those things. first the shift points arent in the PCM nothing tranny related is. second this will be a reflash- end user has control over nothing. you get flashed with the program they have made. end of story. Of course they might do custom flashes with inpu tfrom the owner.

that is some great news!

I know its all speculation at this point on the gains/cost, but what might something like this cost? let ASSUME that this mod gives 15WHP across the board? what kinda price do you think RB would stick on that type of gain?

I'm quite excited as this would be a mod thats fool-proof (for those of us without Int-X's and dont have the ability to "tune"

hmm, I suppose those who are interested in getting this done would need to either physically go to rb, or take of their ecu and send to them? Correct?

Ouch -- I didnt think about that... would suck immensley. Phsyically going to RB would be impossible for the great majority of us.... phsycially sending in the ECU is possible but would entail being without a car for I would guess at LEAST a week? even if you did everything next day air etc etc. For this "mod" you would have to factor in a rental car for that time which (for those of us being under 25) would add a few hundred dollars.

Yup, most reflashes are like this. Just make your preperations if this is true.

Well-worth it, IF the tune makes substantial differences.

Hmmm -- I've been to Rotary Performance before to get a baseline dyno and pick up my RP super cat... are you saying that Rotary Performance would have the tools/equipment to do the flash on the spot if I took my car to them? If so that is *freaking* sweet because it's only maybe a 40 minute drive from fort worth for me.

Well TCM's can be flashed as easily as PCM's.

Really this is like being promised a 3 layer chocolate cake, then ending up with a chocolate cupcake.

But it's progress I guess.

So, every time the dealer overwrites the flash (with or without permission), off goes the PCM again??? Would suck if your FI tune got overwritten .

It says on the RB website that's one of their dealers, so I would hope so...

why not just have a tune from a company thats spent 2 years optimizing all those parameters?

Since its using our ECU and not a vintage 80's technology interceptor type of ECU, one map is all you should need for any NA car because of the beauty of feedback control from O2 sensors and fuel trims.

If this is going to be a send to them deal to reflash though, I'll wait for Cobb tunings efforts...

Because I don't plan to keep the car as it is now, forever. At some point I'll be going FI. If some things I have in the works right now work out, I'll have enough money to take the 4port engine beyond anyone's current aspirations (just to see what it can do). Modifying the stock ecu would greatly ease any crazy port jobs/FI. This same company has the capability of making this an end user product, but currently has a monopoly on that capability, so they won't do it. They'll milk it for all its worth first. Hopefully they'll get some competition, because I have no problem giving my money to someone else.

RB is a business first, and a rotary benefactor second, so I can understand their tight control over the technology. But I don't have to like it.

And mail in reflashes are so 90's .

Some clarification please...Kind of a no-brainer question, really.. but I think reading the Cobb post in the "Utah?" thread where they requested 2003 RX8s threw me off...

Since the first RX-8s were 2004 models though available as early as May-ish 03 (i think), we're to assume that those of us who got ours in 03 (August 2003 here) are considered 04 models right? That would make the 04 period span almost a year and a half... correct?

There was no 2003 model year. Only 2004 onwards. Your build date != model year.
