Whatever happened to the Cobb tuning? Did they ever report any results? It seems like the RB tune is going to be rather conservative, which is what I would expect from them. But it would be nice to have a more aggressive alternative for those with no concern about their Cat.

the RX8 came out in 2003, roughly half way through the year. In the US for marketing reasons i guess, they call an 03 an 04

this is great news!!!!
but remember that RB is always on the conservative side when it come to power gains, but what they say is what you get and the best quality.

I just got of the phone with them. They told me around a 7 HP gain with stock intake and exhaust. With an open intake and exhaust it is around an additional 10 to 12HP. Racing Beat is a great company and I believe you will get similiar results. Pricing should be less than $300 or so if you include your shipping. I will be getting mine done.

12 hp with an openbox intake.. thats not including the exhuast either is it? i think we may be seeing some better hp gains with breather mods, intake, exhaust, headers, could see a 15-20hp gain with those 3 and the new flash

does anyone else see a potential issue here?
what happens if you pay your 300 bucks or whatever, enjoy your newly flashed ecu for a while then a new Mazda flash comes along? This means you're 300 bucks is wasted or? will they reflash it for free if you have dealer work done?, will it be compatible with the newer flash you just had done?, or is their flash something completely different than what Mazda would do so instead just drive around with their setup forever or? Seems like I'm missing something, can someone enlighten me on this? thanks a bunches in advance

It doesn't have to be compatible with any new Mazda flashes. It is a flash. It can't be compatible. You can only have one or the other.
It is true that if Mazda reflashes your car you will lose this one. Sned it back for them to redo it. It is a pain in the *** but if you are smart you won't ever take your car to a delership for any work anyways. Not even for an oil change. Only take it to a dealership if you have a serious issue that needs warranty work. This will minimize any potential reflash issues and you'll probably have less headache from not dealing with them anyways.

Email from Jim Langer
Just to confirm what 'hogcar' said. I inquired via email & below is the response from Jim.

Guys,
Since I have received several email messages regarding the ECU reflash for the RX-8 let me try an answer your questions with this summarization.
Yes, we have finally developed a flash for the RX-8 that offers a modest performance increase. Once we are ready to release this flash, we will make available dyno charts and performance specifications. Before releasing this reflash we had several people that we have an on-going testing relationship send us their ECU's. (By chance, all of these cars were 2004 RX-8s.) All reports regarding the reflash were positive as expected, with no problems or complaints.
Shortly thereafter we attempted to reflash a 2005 RX-8, but the ECU would not accept the flash. We have since obtained both an 2005 and 2006 ECU and we are continuing to research these units. We have also been made aware of another possible Mazda flash version for the 2004 that might be forthcoming. We would prefer to update the latest flash to avoid having our customers deal with a possible "overwrite" by the dealer during a visit to the dealership.
We do not have any current plans for an ECU flash for any specific aftermarket turbo or supercharger kits. The price for the reflash has a target price of around $295, with a 1-2 turnaround required for this service. (Same day service for local customers will be addressed at our next staff meeting.)
Best regards,
Jim Langer
