GReddy SP2 Exhaust Help/Info

alright so i'm about to purchase the GReddy SP2 exhaust for my 8 but before i do so i was going to see if i could get any feedback/info about it from 8 owners who already have this installed. i would really like to see pics of it installed on peoples cars (pics from underneath the car would be most helpful but any are fine). how do you like the exhaust? is performance/hp gain very substantial? how loud is it? is tuning it immediately after install necessary? answers to those questions along with any other info would be great.

*also, im a bit of a noob in the performance modding area, but i was looking into replacing the stock catalytic converter with the racing beat midpipe. would the two be able to be used in combination like that?

A midpipe + SP2 would be way too loud. The SP2 is loud enough when you want it to be.
HP gains from after market exhaust are minimal, however removing the CAT would add a little you you have a 6-speed.

I have the SP2, I personally like the sound, mine is coupled with a rp supercat. Sounds great. Though you will not get any significant gain in HP with it alone maybe 2-3ish? You can use it with the Race Pipe but you will throw a cel and stink like hell some people can't stand the smell some could care less. You will get a better bump in HP if you do both but again nothing too substantial, maybe 10-12 HP not sure don't quote me, that is subject to correction and purely speculation. Also I'm pretty sure (also open to correction) but I don't think you need a tune just for exhaust, I know I personally didn't and don't have problems. Here is the only pic I have of it right now.

hey thanks to both of you for the help and info. as far as it being too loud i'm not really concerned and im probably not going to car much about the smell either. i appreciate the heads up on that though. LOUD is almost what i'm going for here >.< i forgot to ask though... is it LEGAL to have the racing beat catalytic converter replacement pipe? and it will for sure match up/fit with the greddy sp2 (without modifications to either part). lastly, i am waiting on the racing beat headers, but once they are available... would i then have a "complete exhaust" system if i had the RB exhaust header, RB catalytic converter replacement pipe, and greddy sp2?

i actually just took off my sp2 exhaust but not because i disliked it but because i just needed a change after 3 years. first off no its not legal to have the racing beat catalytic converter replacement pipe because it removes the emissions of the car and yes everything will match up together perfectly. and yes you would have a complete exhaust with those three parts

I have the Greddy SP2 exhaust I love it. Yes it is loud everyone knows when you are coming and going and will look at you like wtf but it sounds great and loud in a good way. It looks great on the car as well most people notice how huge the tips are. As for a cat I am using the stocker but I could imagine with an aftermarket how loud it is. Gains well besides decibels I see none.

thanks snipaz and rx8ya. snipaz, as far as the RB cat replacement pipe goes, is there actually anyway to get caught since its illegal and all? i mean... if i were to install all three of those parts im expecting a VERY loud exhaust system correct? but could i get pulled over just for that? and what would even happen if i were to get caught with it somehow? is it really taht big of a deal?

lastly, do you have any idea or info about when the RB header will actually be available?

Yes you might get pulled over depending on who the cop is and how they are feeling. I dont know anything about cops in wichita but in NYC they will pull you over in a heartbeat that being said i have never been pulled over and my sp2 is loud in the streets of brooklyn the echos off the building are very loud, Im guessing alot more open space where you are. I actually got pulled over in my near stock exhaust on my stage 3 wrx in the city and my 8 is alot louder. IM also not sure of your emissions standards but im guessing eliminating your cat would be illegal some states you only need one and its done by visual inspection. If you got caught they might issue you a ticket in which you can just swap out to ur stocker for compliance and have the ticket thrown out or they might just say wow your car sounds great have a nice day (happened to me on the palisades parkway in NY state trooper lol).

well you wont pass emissions so they can catch it that way or if a cop wants to be really bad they can look under the car and they will see no cat

I just got the sp2 put on yesterday and I love it. It sounds great. It really is not that loud right now. I was going to go with the borla system first buy when I went into my local shop and talked to them and they told me that they have heard from others and them selfs that the greddy is one of the best sounding systems for the rx8. The said it had a great deep tone and it was not loud enough to be missed with cops. So I bought it and iam glad I did. I also love when i makes the poping sound once in awhile. I like the dule mufflers and the stainless steel shine to them. I also like the big muffler tips. I had heard of people on the forums saying that they were way to big and i looked at youtube videos of the system and to me they didnt look that big. But once i got the system put, then i saw that they were pretty big. I like it though.

thanks everyboyd.
for those who have purchased and installed the sp2, could you please tell me where you purchased it from and for how much? trying to find the best deal on it as i'm now even more sure than i already was that i want to purchase it =D

does anybody have any good info about the obx header? i can get it for really cheap and idk how long it will be till the RB header is out so i was considering going with it instead. would that all still match up correctly (OBX exhaust header, RB midpipe, GReddy sp2)? also, is the obx actually good quality or is it just a total waste and i should wait it out for the RB header?

i know this will sound pretty dumb if i'm wrong which i most likely (and hopefully) will be, but replacing the stock cat with a catless midpipe will not cause flames to shoot out of the exhaust tips occasionally will it? i seem to remember reading something about this on another thread once but i can no longer find it and i definitely do not want to get rid of my cat if this will be the case. please let me know!!

I love the look.. It has a golden tip.. which changed into that color after a while.. and lookse Really sexy..

i had the SP2 on my car for a while and ditched it for a HKS hi power. SP2 is super quiet IMO compared to the HKS. That's part of the reason I got rid of it, it was toooo quiet for me lol. maybe i'm just nuts

alright guys thanks for all help and input. i've decided i'm for sure going with GReddy sp2 catback and racing beat cat replacement pipe. i'll probably be purchasing these two items before the week is out so any last minute info about where to order, install, etc. would be great. will these two itmes come with ALL necessary parts to install them together? i read on the RB site that moving the o2 sensor will cause check engine light to come on but is there anything else i should be aware of?? anybody have a time estimate of how long install might take?

I had the local tuner store that I had ordered it from install the exhaust. It took one guy to do it in about 45 mins. I was charged $129 for the install. You should be able to do it yourself if you want. I have done all my old cars myself. It is easy to do. I didnt do it to this one because I make payments on it. So it is really up to you on the install. Also as lone as the bolts on the old system are not to screwed up.

I have it on mine too. I like the sound, but if you get certain body kits the tips will melt the rear.I have the mazsport dual resinated mid pipe, which is 3'' and the greddy is 2.5'' piping. Thinking of getting different cat back for this reason.
