Hmmm ... I missed that too. I thought you were opposed to doing a before/after dyno because you were marketing this as a reliability mod and NOT a performance mod. Did you change your mind? Or maybe just give into the cry of the masses. Link?

I completly spaced out when earlier comments were made regarding the heat situation with these coils. One of the earlier tests we conducted on MazdaManiac's vehicle was running the coils at a local time attack event here in Phoneix.

The event was in mid May, it was 105 to 110 degrees outside with it having to be at least 140 degrees on the track.

Jeff ran 2 practice sessions for 20 minutes and then a final timed lap consisting of a warm up, 2 hot laps and a cool down. My own vehicle was boiling when I finished my second practice session with oil temps and water temps pegging 230 to 240 degrees.

There were no coil failures during that time and those same coils have been ran on MazdaManiac's car to this day.

Scientific? No not really but we were all satisfied that if the coils could withstand the punishment of a turbo motor in those kinds of extreme conditions that they were up to the task.

Is there any benefit in playing with dwell on these coils ? Seems the oem dwell times are very long at low rpm , perhaps too long ?

the coils are solid--been running these coils for a little while now. The connectors--if not right -- can give you fits. That is one of the good reasons to do this mod with this kit.
Check to make sure your grounds are good, tight and clean. Misfires themselves as yall already know can be from a lot of stuff--you will not ever get rid of them all.
spec the coils with a multimeter--it is possible to get a bad one---it happened to me when i ordered some brand new ones---i didnt order from Charles and the gang.
the car would idle fine and free rev fine but once a load was placed on her it showed.

I think the hot-start issue of my car is because I have a weak battery. My car starts fine when it's cold, but when it's hot, oh man.....really pisses me off. Today, I tried to start it when engine is hot and it just cranks. So I got the cables out and jumped the battery. And guess what, my car starts immediately. I'll have my battery tested on Monday, and if it's bad I'll get new one.

I think I found out the problem with my ignition. But my hands are still dirty and I havent tested it out so ill let you know :D

still no luck just doesnt want to start once its been run i had my battery tested today and its good so thats not the problem i guess ill check on starter even tho it started pretty normal before coil install its becoming frustrating

Ok so let me break down what I did today...

I had decided to go back to OEM coils and wires today to see if the ignition is the cause of my problems. So I started taking things off to remove the BHR upgrade. While doing that I checked the wires and found out that the wires of one of rotors were in reverse order. So that couldnt be good. I put the wires in the correct order and re assembled everything. I turned on the car and everything seemed ok, let it warm up and then I drove off to test it a while. After about 5-10 minutes of testing the car started going pig rich and difinetly something was wrong.

I came back home let the car cool off and I installed the OEM ignition back on. After doing that the car now runs fine.

So in conclusion, something is wrong with my BHR ignition, I think it might be the wires that are bad since its an inconsistent thing. Once Charles sends me the new wires I will test this theory out and see if it gets any better.

What year? 2004 and some 2005's had under powered starters.

1) Could be a starter.

2) Also, Cats have been known to cause a hot start problem.

3) HEAT heat does effect coil performance. No, not heat from the car.
I'm talking about a bad coil. Works fine up until a certain heat point, then it breaks down. Has nothing to do with the ability of the product to handle the heat.
One or more bad coils. These coils if not defective can handle the heat.

well idk it seems its getting worse and its pissing me off i cant drive car if i kno i wont being staying long because it wont start. I tried forever so finally i opened hood to let it get some fresh air and after a few minutes i tried and it started right up so idk heat may not effect coils but its affecting something lol im getting an appt mon to go to dealer to see if they will replace starter i suppose

Ok - I pulled my plugs and wires yesterday.

My finding - Wire 4 was definitely hosed...the bend in the terminal was very very weak.
My T2 plug looked like it hadn't been firing well for while... all carbon - no metal visible on the contact points at all.

So cleaned all the plugs swapped the wire and re-installed. Car idles 100% better (and it was idling nice before)... I'll test the misfire issue tomorrow.

So for sure bad wires are an issue - and one that is kind hard to tell without taking them off - which will **** them up - so a catch 22.
