Car dealership is just like any business, I don't blame them for trying to make money.

My dealership in Omaha, is however, just plain awesome!

Doubt it. Unless what you're going in for is directly related to the cat of course. Plenty of guys in our club run Speed 3s with Cobb downpipes (cat delete) and they never have problems.

Then again our club gives them so much business they really don't want to lose us, and we don't want to lose them either, so there's mutual respect and reasonable expectations on both sides. Ex: if you install a turbo and blow your engine, it won't be warrantied.

However if your engine dies they also won't blame your midpipe or CBE. We have a pretty decent setup if you ask me.

Remember when mechanics used to work on cars. They actually would troubleshoot the problem. Now we get auto techs that do what a computer or some manual tells them to do.

Wolfe is a local dealership

Thanks for the response though :D

I remember my local stealership, when asked if exhaust will void my warranty. They said no, not unless you remove the CAT.

Each one is different..

While all dealerships labor rates may be pricey and OEM dealer part prices are ridiculous not all dealerships/service departments are shady. My wife (who technically owns the 8 ) has a good rapport with our local Brown's Fairfax dealership. Though she has verified always things with me before agreeing to labor/parts being ordered not once have they ever tried to rip us off. They have always been straightforward and down to earth.

Recently the car died with what turned out to be bad coils, but since I didn't have a code puller at that point I had it towed to Mazda as they were the only ones to ever work on the car. I explained about my upcoming turbo project (I am upfront with them about voiding the remaining engine warranty as it is only right...) and how I was already planning to replace the coils with BHR ones. They were more than happy to let me keep the car on their lot for free for a month or so while the BHR coils came in. They also installed aftermarket break pads and rotors, as well as OEM plugs I bought online without complaint. Their only stipulation was that they wouldn't offer a warranty on the parts themselves which is obviously reasonable.

virginia has pretty good mazda dealers/service departments. First one that comes to mind is Rosenthal mazda which I now take my car to. It is a hour and half away but they do right by me. My local dealer in annapolis, charges me outrageous rates and wanted a down payment for anytype of warranty work being done.

I told them to go F themselves while sucking it.

Remember, too, that up to 70% of a car dealer's profits are realized through service. New car sales are a wash; they need to be moved through quickly as possible, at cost or sometimes below, after that car hauler shows up with a buttload of cars from the factory and charges them to the dealer's account. Most new car salespersons make a fixed (not percentage) fee from a new car sale, $100-$150 per car in my area. Used cars are more profitable for both sales personnell and the dealer, but the bulk of profits comes from service and accessories.

That being said, I don't mind paying professionals good money to do a good job on my car; finding such a group can be a challenge. Not all service departments are ripoff artists, but to find a combination of knowledge, integrity, experience, and a customer oriented outlook can be a challenge.

Agreed. Pearson Mazda in the Richmond area is really good too.
