btw,, i cant tell you how many sb chevys i have built..

details are important... hey, but what do i know..

beers :beers:
No injectors...
850 Holley double pumper
No ECU - no pollution control sh*t.
high lift/duration cam
headers and free flowing exhaust
A couple of adjustment screws on the carb...that's about it.
But 600 HP NA.
Stroker...327 with a 283 steel crank and high flow racing heads. 12.5:1 compression pop top pistons.
....and about 6 miles to the gallon and so loose you'd burn a quart of oil driving around town for a day, but it had enough torque to bust both the motor mounts, and required it to be chained down. Put the thing in 1st gear and it'd bark the tires every time it hit a lick coasting. It was the fastest car around these streets at the time.

Now don't play it off like I'm an idiot. I've built and owned some extremely powerful NA cars....I never said anything about putting injectors on a 69 small block.

Hmmm, so you think I should cancel the Cobb AccessPort from you until I get the other upgrades?

Heh. Just kidding.

It's interesting to see the coils and plugs at the top of the list. I'm not sure I've run into that as a priority on these lists before.

Im getting 190 to the wheels and all I have for performance is a Typhoon intake which more than likely is taking away power and I have a RP midpipe.

My coils have not been changed for over 50K miles so I prob need new coils.

I think with new coils and Accessport, Ill be over 200.

So if I delete the Cats what can I do to save $450+$120 on buying new sensors and maybe gaining more performance or tuning capabilities????

I was reviewing the Cobb AccessPort will this allow manual incremental adjustments to the Air/fuel mixture, or can you only choose from the allotted flashes already pre-made?

Are there any other choices?

So I'm going to rewind back the MM's list as that pretty much encapsulates, more or less, the items members here have come up with.

Fresh OE or BHR coils and plugs
Exhaust of your choice
CAT-delete midpipe of your choice
MazdaSpeed or AEM intake
Cobb AccessPORT

In perspective we are looking at about a 10% increase in power. As some of already stated, just not being tuned up will lose that much. So we're squeezing the last drops of hp out of NA. Kudos to Mazda.

So let me ask some noob questions about priorities of purchase if one has a tuned 180hp RX-8.

OE or BHR coils and plugs -- hp/$
Exhaust of your choice -- hp/$
CAT-delete midpipe of your choice -- hp/$
MazdaSpeed or AEM intake -- hp/$
Cobb AccessPort -- hp/$695

Coil...

Are new OE or BHR coils worth swapping out on a new 40th or should I wait?
What about plugs?

I've searched around and don't see anything definitive (though I may have missed it.)

yes, b/c none of the questions have EVER been asked before. All you have to do is search for 1 minute and find all the answers you need. If you have a question that has never been asked before then we will be happy to answer it

Yeah, that intake...

Yeah, he has that up in his list of priorities. Would you have a different, er, take on intakes?

I've put on new AP sway bars and sticky 245/40s and I'm now looking at performance improvements. NA seems pretty limited.

Searching around one can find complete ignition systems for $700 for 12 hp. That seems a bit over the top. MM recommends fresh coils right at the top of the list but I'm not sure he means that for a new vehicle or only when one needs to replace them as part of maintenance.
