Best way to get 200whp NA?

Cheapest way to dyno at 200whp while staying naturally aspirated?

Lets see some of your ideas.

cobb accessport from MM
catless midpipe

and an electric supercharger....

hehe j/k

Jedi54 10-23-2008 12:03 AM

AP
high flow cat / midpipe
exhaust

Easy_E1 10-23-2008 12:15 AM

We had a local guy do 205 WHP with open exhaust (straight pipe) and the Racing Beat intake. He's just a freak of nature.
The Cobb Accessport and CAI intake and Catless exhaust is your best bet. Toss in the BHR Yukon Coil upgrade and you should be good.

electric supercharger... hmmm.... =]

heyarnold69 10-23-2008 09:29 AM

intake -- hks, aem, Racing beat with ram
exhaust of soem type -- borla, hks, greddy
sr high flow cat -- im a tree hugger! (sorta)
cobb from mm
stickers! hehe

I made 202whp on a mustang dyno with just a K&N drop in filter and turboxs header back exhaust!

Well, I must commend you on not starting a new topic. That said, your question is a bit off topic.

Truthfully the stock clutch is fine for stock power. Give the old search button a whirl, perhaps "Best clutch" or "stage 2 clutch". Its really personal opinion...

Brettus 10-23-2008 06:39 PM

cheapest ?
gut the cat
get cobb AP
hi flow air filter and racing beat duct - remove the screens from the stock intake

you are now good to go :)

byez 10-23-2008 10:16 PM

i noticed a screen within the intake as well, what is its purpose?

to correct air flow..

and to answer the main question, you can do 200whp quite easily.

first and foremost make sure your engine and its respective components are HEALTHY and within working spec. You'd be surprised how detrimental one coil or spark plug is to your power as well as mileage, etc. So check your spark plugs, ignition coils, wires, catalytic converter and air filter.

You can then easily bump up to 200 with a midpipe/hi-flow cat and a exhaust.. so long as your engine is healthy.

This car doesn't respond well to bolt ons in terms of price->power.. but small things do add up. Other things you may want to consider are a true cold air intake for high end gains and a reprogramming device such as the Cobb AP to correctly tune the factory tune to unlock any missing power.

Best bang for the buck in terms of power/price for this car is a midpipe with a Cobb Accessport.

First Rule Of Modification - (FROM)

- - - If you don't know an item's function, do not fuck with it. - - -

the screen is there to even out the turbulent flow (I know, it sounds counter-intuitive) Removal screws with the air flow meter readings, and disrupts the idle.

on some cars it does - not on mine . Been that way for a good 30,000 km's now and idle is sweet .

kersh4w 10-23-2008 11:28 PM

i ran with only one of the screens when i had my stock airbox. it ran just fine.

SiLVeRE8 10-24-2008 12:26 AM

test pipe, exhaust, racingbeat intake with duct, pulley, and that should get you to 200 or atleast close.

wassup_nuthin 10-24-2008 03:41 PM

buy a mustang?....

bsteimel 10-24-2008 06:00 PM

nobody has mention a lightweight flywheel. Dyno tests show that the mazdaspeed flywheel bump hp by 8. That's not a bad increase for our cars for 500 bucks

This is a great option to do, when you replace your clutch, usually you can have them put it on for no extra labor costs.

Fanman 10-24-2008 06:07 PM

The stock clutch is fine for up to about 275 crank hp. If it was me looking for 200 whp (assume you are around 180 whp stock). I would do the following :

1. Cobb Accessport
2. Racing Beat Ram Air Dust & REVi intake box
3. AP Pulley (not a lot of hp, but cheap & easy to install)
4. RP Super Cat
5. Racing Beat REV8 Cat back exhaust.

That will probably get you to 200 wp at the top end.

Lightened Flywheel is a good mod, but not really price effective, as install cost is really expensive.

not a good idea to shove dust down your intake

IXC-RX8 10-24-2008 06:43 PM

fujita 4.77 is a good mod for N/A

newguy 10-24-2008 09:06 PM

Im just getting the cobb ap, cat or test pipe and k&n drop in and de-wall the intake box and call it a day. prob never get to a dyno though

kersh4w 10-27-2008 12:52 AM

get the turboxs exhaust, it comes with a test pipe.

Thanks, Eric, you forgot about me!

I made just over 200-rwhp back when I was NA, with a cat. I also had a less than stellar intake at the time (Umnitza) so I think that was holding me back.

I would say, the easiest way, is:

-upgraded ignition (BHR coils)
-catless midpipe (I didn't have this but it helps) or the TurboXS complete exhaust system
-AccessPORT
-modified stock intake box, or AEM or Racing Beat intake with duct

A lightweight flywheel will help, as will the Agency Power crank pulley, but they won't yield anything special. A lightweight fly does do more than just horsepower, though.

Also, having a motor with strong compression is the best starting point. If you motor has lower-than-average or just average compression, you'll have a hard time breaking the 200-rwhp mark NA.
