Wow only 2 weeks! I can't wait. I think I'll be the one trying to keep up with L8 this time around. Not sure if I should get new pads yet or not. How far do you guys wear them down before replacement? I think I've got a little more than 1/4 of an inch left. It's hard to tell with the Carbotechs because they have rivets.

I would never go below 1/4th, especially if you are tracking. Brakes are not something you want to worry about when you are thresholding into turn 4!

My 2 cents!

New set of front pads on the way for me as well.

Swoope,
I don't think anyone bought in on the coupons this year. Probably why no one is answering, cause no one has them. The instructor types don't need em, and most everyone else was up in the air about what events to do.
Nasa didn't even have the schedule fully in place when the coupon sale was happening.

Glad you are not just gonna jump to the R-comps. As L8 said, learn on streets. If your SPT's have some tread, they will be great.
There is a benefit to tracking on streetable tires as well. A lot less cargo and work.

I run the SPT on the street and ran them at Road Atlanta in the rain this year. They work pretty well. I've also driven on them for a mountain run or two. I was impressed considering they are one of the cheaper options out there.

EDIT: I just looked at my old set of pads that I was keeping as backup. I've worn the current set down to the level where I replaced the last set so I gues I'l switch them out. For the record I got a Roebling, a Barber, 2 CMP's, and a Road Atlanta weekend out of the current set. I also left them on for the street for a while but don't know the mileage. I think I could probably go one more weekend even before they were totally gone. I am no weenie on the brakes either. Rotors still look good but you can tell that they are wearing a little. I keep a close eye on them ever since OD found a crack while switching pads.

Things I gots to do or it's hello 'Bu

On my to do list this week before I head back out of town is...
1. Replace tranny and diff fluids
2. Inspect front brakes and possibly rebuild calipers
3. Check out the rear sway bar - I think I just need to grease the bushings
4. Mount up another set of Hoosiers on the ol' track wheels. I may actiually run the old ones one more weekend. My 2 fronts have a smidge of belt showing on the outside shoulders. I could run them in the back and be OK for a few sessions/day but not for 4 TT sessions + as many HPDE4 sessions as I could run... I dont have much TT competition as the current list shows a really slow 1st gen rx7 in D. He was at CMP and I spanked him with the Bu even in the dry.

I have new Hawk HP+ front pads on the way from RX7store, I hope they make it in time, or I will have to pay more to order them from someone else. I just could not bite the $150 hit for the Xp8's at the moment. I am starting to get excited, b/c I know that next week will be a lot less stress due to work, I will be in town all week, and I can prep for track.

I am planning on being down to Savannah around 3 or so, get checked in at the hotel, and then heading over to the track to try and stake out a spot for our massive crew. Maybe check out Dano in the seat time event while I am there.

"Maybe check out Dano while I am there" - No really, if you are too busy I'll understand...

TA - how is the prep coming? 8 or the Bu? Will call you tomorrow.

remember also the 225 hoosiers are as wide as the 235 RA's. I agree it drives different- Some of my noticed difference is due to having a 45 sidewall compared to a 40 sidewall on the ra's. So the hoosiers feel a little less responsive and as TA says --you have to trust them more at the limit also. They do have more grip than the r/a's however. My next size will be a 245/40 17 (i think the new mustang class will be running those)

Well my prep went well. I drained and filled the tranny and diff. I cleaned up my front calipers to hold me over before I rebuild. Today I mounted up the new old tires on my track wheels. Just need to grease the rear sway bar bushing.

Good job. Although I was secretly rooting for the BU.

On Saturday I finally got around to putting on the replacement bumper and I flushed the coolant and went with a 70/30 mix. Does seem to run a little cooler than the stock 50/50.

Also set my alignment. Tracking straight now but but I'll probably dial in a little more camber up front this coming weekend.

Still need to order those Carbotech pads.

Replaced the slider pins in my front brake calipers this evening. It's always nice saving money by doing this stuff yourself. Unfortunately, I fubared my cell phone because I put it on top of my car and when I drove off to test my brakes, I forgot about the phone and it went flying off the car and did about 30 end overs! SOB! All I had to do was remember I put it on there... but NOOOOOOO!

So if anyone needs to get in touch with me by phone until I can see if I can get this POS fixed, PM me and I'll give you my home phone number.
