You make it sound as though Mark is the only one dropping huge dough into his car Chiket... not saying I've spent more than Mark, but I'm sure I've spent somewhere damn near close, thats for sure. :D Comes with the nature of owning a blog and testing new parts to post about it, plus autocrossing I suppose though.

How much does the stock seat weigh? The basic one without heater and electric motor? Presumably, that's the type you had before. Just curious how much weight saving this is.

Marc,

Several people like GeorgeH, yourself and a few others are starting to invest some decent coin into their set-ups. I was only speaking to Vyndictive about upgrades by TeamRX8...

Yeah, it feels like I'm starting all over again with learning about autocross set-ups. I've only done a total of 8 events, so I'm just trying to soak in all I can.

But lots of cash is something I don't have, so its mostly used parts for me. The problem with used parts is that they have to be somewhat common on they'll never come up for sale.

I'll have questions about set-ups and alighnment, what siffness to run on sways and shocks, etc...

Problem is I don't even know which questions to ask yet.

Nevermind, I found the answer to how much the seat weighs plus how much everything else weighs.

Feel free to pm me any questions you may have. I'll send you my e-mail address, and I'll do my best to answer your questions.

Best advice I can give you is do an autocross school (Evolution, SoloPro, etc) and to run your car stock for one season in as many events as you can afford.

Just for fun (how could you not be curious??), a stack of mounted 265 R1R's is 41.000000 inches tall.

Too late for that! I enjoyed modding for the sake of modding, and sort of fell into STX because where I was at... Though it does make you mod with more of a purpose... So I'm pretty much done with mods and I'm going to run a whole season with my current set-up.

I'll see how I do locally for awhile before making a commitment to an autocross school or further investment into the car.

I officially crown you King of the Big Spenders. All the glory and attention is now yours.

I never wanted it and is the reason there's no Goodies II thread (or Goodies I either - deleted).

lol wait wait wait, I was only poking fun in jest here. I wasn't trying to take a crown or anything I just was simply stating that other people drop munnies too.

Chicket, you should come out to MA for an autocross or two, now that I just noticed you're in VA. Hell you could stay at my place or something and we could get you to an SCCA event and a Renegade Miata event. Sounds like a good time.

But yeah, just was saying is all. Wasn't trying to get grouchy.. lol give the attention back to Mark *this Marc goes and hides back in his corner*

I wonder if any of the Packwood competitors will put RE11s on some 17" RPF1s. It would be an interesting comparison.
I'm on Starspecs again this year (though 255/40 this time), trying to reduce the number of variables while still learning and all that. Most of the other RPF1's I see around are on AWD or FWD cars... maybe an S2k will show up running 9" in the rear?

Take him to one of the SVT club events at Devens, should be a hoot

FTD somewhere in the 90's? Yes please! Even at Packwood it's rare I'm running over 65 seconds at an event

Thanks. I may just take you up on that offer one of these days. Same holds true if you want to do an event down here in central VA.

Took a few pics tonight before I loaded up the car. I'll try to take a better one showing the stacked measurement sometime this weekend (in the daylight).

Tires lookin awesome man. Yeah I'll let you know if I'm down, tell me if any events sound promising coming up that you hear about. I can't think of any off the top of my head except the typical Renegade Miata events...that club is my favorite all the time. Long long courses with tons of twistys.

Any pics of what you did for the airbag connector resistor trick thingy ma-bob stuff? Intake box looks pretty cool Mark. You have a lot of patience to make things like that.

Stupid climate change... I was going to use the first Texas Region event today as a final warm up for the Tour next week, and we got 4" of snow last night. In Texas. In late March. WTF?!?!

Cmon man, that is childs play. Just take the seat out and look at the plug. It's a two wire plug with female slip terminals. With the battery disconnected for several minutes to let the airbag system discharge it's electrical energy take a piec of wire and stick it in fully to one of the plug female terminals to see how deep it is. Use this as a guide tocenter the resistor between the two plug terminals, then make mating bends in the resistor wire like the ends go down into the plug terminals, and then using thetest wire depth use that length as where to loop the far ends of the resistor wire back on a tight 180 turn. These two 180 turn points are what you jam down into the two female terminals in the plug. If you did it right those ends are in the plug terminals and the resistor is sitting flush on the plug connection face end. Take some electrical tape and tape the resistor firmly to the plug and you're done. Think of it as a square U kind of like the top end of a football goal post that has sharp 90 mends rather than a long sweep, the resistor body is in the horizontal crossover between the uprights and the top vertical ends of the uprights have the tight 180 bends that fit into the terminal plugs.

I guess that sort of makes sense. I know literally nothing of electronics. Nothing. I'm an IT guy..not a hardware kinda guy. :/ But thanks for the help, I'll see what I can come up with when I get the car back

Correction. Official snow total for my city was 8.5 inches. I've lived in North Texas for over thirty years, and I've never seen snow in spring here. It's crazy.

Forecast looks passable for next weekend for the Tour. Keep your fingers crossed!
