Since i'm about to buy a midpipe, i'd like some advice.

I'm probably going to pick up the Racing Beat Midpipe with the 100CPI Davesport cat. I'd also like to add a resonator.

Where is the best place to buy these? And does anyone make this type of combination where I won't have to have it all custom fabricated?

I just did the same thing its should be getting welded up this week. Instead of buying a racing beat pipe I bought the OBX midpipe since it was only $125 and it was going to be cut up anyways. I also purchased a 12" vibrant resonator for $47. The Davesport Cat was $138 so I only have $310 plus shipping on items and the welding fees in the pipe.

Parts are identical to the mid-pipe I'm building, except I bought a used RB mid-pipe. I've had these things sitting in my closet for the last 3 months. Need to get around to having it built soon...

I'll post up my weight once it's built.

Thanks Stuttgart, Any idea how soon you'll have it installed? If you can I'd like to hear some sound clips of it. as well as the weight like Mark said.

Cheap custom cat pipe FS here, you'll have to inquire about the details but I can vouchfor the seller

After reading through this thread, I don't think it would take much for me to change to STX trim. Can any of the more experienced guys here let me know what modifications would be allowed and what would have to be taken off?

2005 Mazda RX8 Touring
- AEM Intake
- Cobb Accessport
- Odyssey PC680 Battery
- KW V3 Coilovers (switching from JIC)
- Greddy Spectrum Elite exhaust (a bit heavy)
- Stock cat
- OEM wheels
- OEM rotors
- Carbotech XP10 / XP8 pad setup
- Motul RBF 600
- SS Brake lines
- SS Clutch line
- AFE SS / Fluid Motorsports Synchro Saver (I remember TeamRX8 saying that shifter modifications are not allowed)

The next thing is definitely a light set of wheels. Looking at a few used options from Volk in 17" sizes. Am I close enough to get into that class?

That's the only illegal mod for STX that I see. Team was on the money.

All you really need now is a good set of Sway bars, lightweight wheels and grippy tires, and you will have a well prepped STX car.

And if you really get into it, check out some race seats, they are fun

Oh wait.....I forgot to say that I have Progress Technology Sway Bars (F&R) w/ Agency Power endlinks all around.

Tires......going to get Dunlop Star Specs because I have a VERY cheap source for them. Wheels.....still a toss up.

I guess for the races I can always remove the SS kit. Takes me about 10 minutes now.....I got it down!

Oh.....and I still have my Bride VIOS III seats from my Miata.

I can always buy rails for them and slap those on. Damn......

I guess I didn't know that I built my car to STX specs almost all along

The AEM Intake is not STX legal, as it requires the removal of a required shield.

it's not legal in it's entirety, it can be made legal easily though

shifter mods aren't legal in Stock which is what was being discussed at that time, potentially that could be legal in STX since an aftermarket mechanical shifter could come with that detent package, never really thought about it

I was in context, are you sure you were:

14.10.G Any mechanical shift linkage may be used

how is that any different than say a Hurst shifter that has adjustable detents on it where the factory one didn't?

Hey guys, anyone running the Odyssey PC680? I know you are Team but don't know if you've just started using it this year or not. Reason I'm asking is because I got a used one off someone who only used it for a year and hooked it up to the tender last night. Went up to about the 25% mark.. went to sleep..came down this morning..still at the 25% mark. Not sure if that means the battery is toast and I should get another one or what, figured you guys would be the best to ask.

EDIT: Dunno if this helps but I have an older model of this battery charger that looks just like this battery tender just with a 12 instead of a 10 (duh). Can't seem to find my version...

UPDATE: Just called the house and was told that it finally moved up to 50%... maybe just needs a loooong time to charge?

In other good news, the new build is almost done. Put in the modified AEM intake, the battery mount and wire tucked all the wires, just need a working battery now. Got the Race seats in and now I just need my damn trunk and bumper back from the body shop. :D

Did you ever read the Odyssey literature when you bought it? EDIT: NM you bought it used. Look online for them.

They have some very specific guidelines about chargIng their battery. You don't want to use the usual low amp trickle charger when the battery is below a certain voltage (12.8V I think). They have to be charged hard and fast in order to maintain their life.

I have the 545, not the 680. That may change once the pulley kit is finished and the battery is in the trunk.

Good to know. I read up the manual online (which is why I'm asking also, sorry should have specified) because I was a bit worried if my charger would be bad for it. I mean realistically, if I can charge it and get it good for now and get one in the future I'm fine. Just worried if this thing is currently toast or not as I need to get my car out of here and to that damn shop! Oh well, thanks though Team.

Jason is correct. Forgot about that issue.

epikeddie, over on miata.net someone posted a list of parts that you can buy to modify the AEM intake and make it legal (MX-5 has a similar legality issue with this intake). If you're interested, let me know and I'll dig it up and post it here.

Bah! Had a few spare moments at work and decided to look up the parts anyway. Here they are:

AL3X12 Aluminum Intake Tubing 3" OD X 12" Long 1

Cut a ~ 4" section off the tube and use as a link to the AEM intake tube, use remainder to extend inside the bumper cover.
