Was this a reference to my R1-R comment?
If so, my reaction is "I don't have personal knowledge either way." But, it seems to be a commonly held view on the SCCA forums ST group that the R1-Rs are the top choice for a rain tire. Of course, commonly held views can prove to be wrong, particularly when they are based on a different car. However, Toyos do have an outstanding reputation in the wet in general.
Then you have Andy saying he wants Continentals for standing water...

For those who might not have seen the news, acquiring a Cobb AP for our STX cars just got cheaper...
COBB Tuning is excited to announce that recent improvements in AccessPORT development and production efficiency have made it possible for us to reduce the list price of the Mazda RX-8 AccessPORT. Effective as of February 1st, 2010, the Mazda RX-8 AccessPORT will be priced as follows:
AP-MAZ-001 04-08 RX-8 Was: $695.00 NOW!!! $495.00
This AccessPORT price reduction is just one of many exiting changes occurring at COBB Tuning in 2010. The move to our new headquarters in Austin, TX is rapidly approaching and is scheduled to be completed by the end of March. Our new manufacturing center will be opening soon and a ramp up of new performance products will follow shortly after. We will also have some news to share about our racing plans for the coming season very soon.
2010 is gearing up to be an incredible year at COBB Tuning and we are looking forward to forging ahead with innovative, ultra-high quality performance products that improve your vehicles' performance and your driving experience!

Nice looking exhaust set-up Mark. I really like how the rear section doesn't pass below the diff -- that alone must add ~2" of ground clearance over conventional set-ups.

Well thats awesome either way then man, glad to see it turned out okay. Talking to Bill from Small Fortune Racing about a full custom exhaust and some ideas we have, just debating on how we're going to take the action I suppose. Lots of plans in place though.. :D To be honest I wish I could go backwards and do just STX though. Seems like a good time.

Team, I have a question. For the modest power level that an STX RX-8 is capable of, would using the stock exhaust system, with a high-flow cat (like the davesport, but 2.5" inlet/outlet) + bigger resonator and a single exit rear section not suffice? I am on a limited budget, thus the question. I'd like to reuse my B-stock rear section seen below

^I used a custom Davesport cat-based mid-pipe, a Corksport cat-back, an AccessPort, and a custom dyno tune to make 210 hp, so I see no reason your above described setup wouldn't make good power.
[edit] I see you are talking about a 2.5" setup. I did use 3" for the mid-pipe. Not sure how much the 2.5 system would limit power.
Now, whether or not it will pass sound regs, which the SCCA is going to get more strict about this year, is another question.
And, nice work, Mark.

Guys, what do you think about this. Would it be legal, and would it meet sound requirements?
I'm running a Borla catback exhaust right now.

Not sure who in this thread knows him, but Steve Downing is selling his beautiful Silver 911. I'll be sad to see it go, it was a great car to watch and ride in. He's been at it a while... don't know if he's coming back in another car but this one was very well prepped.

Specs are up for the 265/40-17 Star Spec.
10.7" section width (on a 9.5" rim), 25.4" tall. So, same width as 265/35-18, but .1" taller (and .4" taller than the 255/40-17).
Weight is listed as 25 lbs, which I assume is a typo, since both the 255/40 and 265/35 are listed at 28 lbs.
Price isn't listed, but you could probably get one if you called.
