clutch update.

Casey and I did some work to try and get any air out the system last Friday. Seemed to work initially, as we were not able to reproduce the grind into 2nd. On the way home though, I did get one grind upon leaving the freeway, after the first traffic light.

I have got the grind back regularly now...and am wondering whether it is even worth bring the black 8 out the event on Sunday. Would it be more worth our while to just put the sticky rubber on the white 8? I don't know.

Casey, check the pre-reg list for BSP....we now have an EVO with Marshal Grice behind the wheel. Ulllose, is this a new ride for them? How long do we have before he masters the vehicle? (EDIT) Looking at the results from the January event, he was in a CSM 99 Corvette....I'm hoping that he is not just co-driving that damn Richard Jung Evo (red one with the ginormous wing and stickers).

I'm going to assume that is Tom Berry's new BSP Evo, which I heard was the national championship winning car last year. So, the car is definitely well setup. I don't know Marshall well, but I think he's a decent driver. Should be some tough competition for you guys.

I would offer up a drive in my car, but I doubt I will be there. I was actually thinking of looking for a co-drive myself to make it easier to do the double header.

if bleeding the system helped for a while, that makes me think there is a leak in the system causeing air to get it.... if it didnt help at all, then I would think tranny internals.

Yep, that is the 2006 BSP Championship car. Marshall is not as fast as Tom, I am sure Tom will run Pax, but I would say you guys are done. That car is 100% a BSP car and even with Marshall not being at the level of Tom he will be more than fast enough to whoop on semi BSP RX8s.

No way I can do the double, I have Jessica and Jennifer will be in New York. If I am lucky best case is I can run Pax, 1st heat, with Cal Club and get her home before she needs a nap.

btw I went and ran the practice at El Toro last week, when they had the Evolution Schools, Tom showed up with the Evo and ran it for the first time on some old dead Hoosiers and was about 1.5 faster than me.

Jung Evo: 245 street tires and stock boost
Berry Evo: 285 race tires, unlimited boost, flywheel etc

If the Jung Evo gives you problems time to think about spending some money or getting out of BSP.

Over time brake/clutch fluid will go bad, water and air will get in it, you need to change it every year or so just like bleeding the brakes.

Should be an interesting race for 2nd with the yellow S2000 and Casey then No need to spend more money on the car, or convert it over to full BSP prep. This is a daily driver. I am glad that you guys exposed me to SOLO2, as I now have no need/desire to race it up on the streets or cruises anymore. I feel like I have grown up because of this experience.

Gained a lot of knowledge about cars, expecially the rotary through a lot of this as well.

I am looking forward to the Pro Solo as well.

If I was interested in being more competitive, and focusing only on racing, I would set up a BS car. No need to go further in class, as the RX8 has shown itself to be very competitive in that class.

Another car that may be interesting to see in BSP is the Mazdaspeed MX5. If the guy that came out last event ever converted his car over to look like the little blue go-Cart is CSP....that may be the car to beat.

I'm not al that impressed with someone doing well in BSP with a EVO.

So, you're suggesting a full flush of the system?

The partial bleeding worked in the short period because it purged some air, but your suggesting that the fluid may be bad.

Is there an "upgraded" fluid recommended for "racing" applications that you would recommend...or just go with the Autozone crizzap? Given that I would be draining the system, would it be a good time to upgrade the lines?

So far the MazdaSpeed Miata is not as fast as the non turbo one. It has bad gearing and weighs about 400lbs more than the regular Miata. Not a good BSP car imho.

If I were you with the cars you have I would put your parts on the white car, it must be 75-100 lbs lighter than yours, and go back to STU. Option #2 FI and SM.

Ford brake fluid is very good, almost as good as Motul 600, and cheap.

As far as FI, I would love to. I'm waiting on a supercharger option, as I think this would be better for the 8, as well as for autocross. Cesar is watching the progress of the axial flow unit, and will most liekly be the first in our san bernardino group to go that route. I may wait to seehow things go with his, before going that route myself.

SM may be more competitive at this point anyways....given the entry of a nationally proven car in BSP.

Hmmm what to do... I now have to take Jessica to another kids bday party in the afternoon. So I have to run in the AM if at all. Looks like rain early so Pax in heat 1 sounds ugly knowing you BSP guys will run on better course later, just like last month. So should I try SK1 with our BSST index on my Kumho SPTs or just use this as a drop.....

I'd like to see what you can do on the SPTs, but the rain forecast is iffy so you might be screwed running in the dry with no 710s.

Rick has offered a drive in his car, but already has 2 drivers in BS. I'll probably try the double running SS in SDR.

Being selfish.. I would like to see what your times would be in SK1 as that is where I will be running Sunday. It would definitely let a newbie like me see how far I need to go!

...... oh no.... you dont want to see that. he he he.... Isley is the person to bring anyone right back down to reality when they think they are making improvments.

kinda like a BS car running 245's spanking the BSP cars with 285's....... ouch. :/

h ehe, but yeah, it is noce to see how far you CAN go with just driving skils.

I think car setup helps as well, or the ablity to read a course properly on the course walk...or, or, or....

Ullose, do SK1...it would be interesting to see how you do with the BST index. It is nice to have that flexibility this year....the freedom to change classes and be indexed properly....not just the raw time anymore.

I do like the new system.

Casey is going to try and help me Saturday afternoon with my clutch/grind issue. We are going to drain the clutch fluid entirely, replace it with new juice. Should I upgrade to DOT5/Synthetic..I checked into the Motul 600....in addition to having a hard time finding an actual non-web vendor...it looks like that may be oevrkill for me. Thye do sell a 5.1, a DOT4, as well as DOT 3 varieties as well.

If the clutch fluid change doesnt do the trick...we'll take the Amsoil out of the tranny. Maybe it is too thin for my transmission, and maybe I need to go to a thicker Synthetic...like Royal Purple that I was running prior to the clutch swap.

See you guys Sunday....hopefully in a black 8.

If not, maybe we'll come in the white 8, which may cause some difficulties in proper indexing...as that car will have the 285's, intake and exhaust, but doesn't have any of the other "BSP" work.....ahhh crap, just remembers it still has stock suspension....oh, this will truely suck....and to think, this will be our first event against the nationally renowned BSP EVO, and that darn yellow S2000 dream killer.

Looks like you guys scared the BSP Evo over to CSM.

Sorry, but if you run the 285s you gotta use the BSP index. At least you only have to beat us by 0.8 instead of 1.5 like the SCCA index.

Dot 4 and 5 are oer kill.... (I think we talked about this already didnt we?)

If you are planning on upgrading the brakes, and running track days, then yeah move to DOT 4 or 5.

but daily driven, once a month auto crossin, DOT 3 is fine.

the reason I say this is because the biggest differance is the heat tollerance and boiling points. the DOT 4 and 5 will not break down or boil at extreame high temps that you jsut are not seeing. right now your biggest limiting factor is your pads. if your going to have a break failure at this point due to severe driving, it is going to be getting the pads to hot, and them becoming usless. (brake fade)

now without getting into a big post about breaks, that is the short verssion. we can talk more about brakes when I see you tommorrow. (there is a lot to talk about)

ULLOSE, desnt DOT 5 require special seals in the calipers? I think I vagely remember this from the "racing days"

No idea... I just use the Ford stuff, even on a track day. To me Motul would be the next step up, btw try a motor cycle shop for it. The flat out best stuff is Castrol SRF, about $90 a can, your brakes will melt before the fluid fails.

you can get SRF around $60/liter if you shop, a bit less in bulk
