It might make that difference.
I encourage anyone willing to take the time to provide before and after pics to do so. My USB borescope was $20 or so from Amazon, and I certainly don't have to have a monopoly on willing to try stuff.
One option that I considered, but ultimately discarded, was using a spray decarb chemical through the spark plug ports directly onto the seals, rotating the engine so that the seals could be optimally hit one at a time.
The reason I decided against this is due to the danger of having a chunk of carbon break off and not dissolve, then break a seal on next start up.
I also considered the ATF fluid soaking method, but couldn't reconcile the expected volume of smoke with what my neighbors would be ok with
