lol wow... Apparently the sprint spring doesnt need a compressor -_- The oem one needs to be taken off though.

Ill document how hard it is. I found this guide online and it inspired me to try it myself

I have no experience with RX-8 springs yet, but I've done many of spring swaps in trucks and cars over the years.

Perhaps it is an easier job in the RX-8.

That's a pretty good write up for removal/installation for the coilover assemblies.

Well, seems like even with a spring compressor it might not be as hard as I thought.

I guess the last coil spring job I did was for a truck. Coil springs for trucks are massive compared to cars (diameter), and that was just a bitch to compress. It was quite scary too

lol, im not sure if you read the other thread where i stated how long it took for me to mod my car lol..

5 hours for my grom...
6 hours for my exhaust...
hour for my sidemarkers(had to remove right side 4 times)

I suspect the springs will take me ~3hours for the first, 1 hour for the next and then ~3 for the front and 1 for the next.

As soon as i know what im doing i work quickly, i just dont want to **** something up in the process.

 

I never rush when I work in my car/truck. For me it's all about having fun with the project and learning more about the vehicle. Who cares if it takes me a whole day to install something? It's not that I'm making a living out of fixing cars, LOL.

Also, damaging/breaking stuff is a good way to learn how to fix cars It can be expensive at times too

I'm still a bit hesitant with the 8 because I still have payments on it. So I try to be very, very careful with it. Trust me, it is a lot easier - psychologically - to work on a car that's completely paid off. My 12 y/o truck knows that well

his original eta according to ups was the 26th and he told me that on the 19th. So assuming it is the same time.. it should be here by the first or second.

but i have no clue if he even shipped it out, i havnt heard from him on facebook for 5 days now.

if i dont get my springs by the 19th then im just going to open a dispute with paypal and be done with it. He was very quick to respond when i wanted to buy them but hes taking his sweet *** time especially after he has money in his bank.

As you already know, it's always a risk to get parts online from unknown sources. Many of these guys are literally parts pushers from their apartments or basements

I remember a couple of years ago I bought this part on ebay and the guy even had a website, which BTW was very well done. He gave me the option to go pick up the part in person at their 'store' in Queens. I decided to do that because I was close by, and really wanted to take a look at other stuff he had.

When I made it there I couldn't believe what I saw!! The whole operation was run from a rather small loft apartment. There were parts stacked - literally - all the way from the floor to the sealing. You could barely walk around the place. Basically, the guy had transformed his loft apartment into a car parts warehouse. It was a mess!!!

And there at a corner the guy had a small desk and a computer from which he ran his ebay 'store.' So it was after all a 'one man operation' from his apartment. So I can imagine it took him forever to deliver parts to so many people buying online!!! Poor guy was overwhelmed trying to keep up. But he gave me a nice price

Anyway, not saying this is your situation at all. Rather, I'm just describing a personal experience with buying car parts online. Hope your springs will arrive soon and that you didn't get them from one of these crazy online operations.

and nah, i have nothing done to it on the exterior except eyelids and an exhaust. My rims have to be the worst looking 40th ae rims out there... only have curb on 2 of my rims but all of them have dreadful pitting from a lacking good coat of clear on them

or maybe the previous owner tried to put on some cleaning solution on them and destroyed them.

 

Actually, my wheels are not that different looking than yours.

I have curb rash on all wheels. As I said before, the previous owner really didn't know how to park, LOL

And I also have a similar 'discoloration' in some parts of my wheels. I wonder if that's a common issue with these wheels.

The exterior of my car is great shape considering it has never been garaged. I keep it waxed - so it did the previous owner -, But it is not perfect. The front bumper could use a fresh coat of paint. there are so other minor scratches here and there, you know, the typical stuff you see on a car that has not been garaged. This summer I am going to do a full detail with clay bar, paint cleaner, wax, the whole thing.

But I haven't done anything to the car yet. Well, I did add a pair of oil cooler screens recently, but that's not really a 'mod.'

I really want to upgrade the suspension. That will be my first 'mod' after I stop spending money in my truck, lol.

That's why I'm waiting to see how yours will turn out!!!

i wash my car once a week, i feel as though we have a rx8 and that it isnt a everyday car people see so id like it look the best it can for other people to view. Not to mention that we have the 40th anniversary and that we need to uphold its reputation. Many people will never see a 40th anniversary in their life so that one time someone sees mine during their commute i want them to jizz their pants.

be careful with excessive waxing, it can lead to excessive dust accumulation. I usually wash once a week and wax every 2.

oh and i also need to add some touchup paint to my front bumper :/ i went with a couple friends on a high speed run through clinton rd in NY and a shitty vw was infront of me kicking rocks all over, when i looked at my bumper the next morning i was so upset.

oh and this is the newest reply i got from my springs. On facebook a guy posted on my comment saying how come he hasnt contacted me in 5 days.

oh and a real example of the best looking 40th anniversary is Pico's car, though... that will change soon after i get my springs and buy spacers (maybe rims)

 

I think the guy that sold you the springs is one those I described above, LOL. So he got locked up? What the hell does that mean! Hopefully you will not be getting stolen parts

Yes, that's what it is. They do have that 'rubber frame' which makes them fit perfectly in place.

 

Just had the complete set of three Racing Beat screens installed on my 40th Anniversary edition. I was in for scheduled oil change and tire rotation, so my Mazda dealer only charged me $50 labor for the removal of the front bumper and the install of the three screens. As Pistonhater has shown in his excellent photo post, it is not a hard job to DIY. I was having a very busy few days before heading out on a long trip so it was time/cost effective to just have them do it. Interestingly, there was a small supplemental screen that was part of my Mazda Cold Air Intake that had to be removed to make room for the larger main screen of the set. It all looks great and I am happy to have them on before taking a 1600 mile jaunt with all that possible hard road debris impact.
