Arrow Blew up another manifold!

I'm glad I do all this research for the nitrous fans.

Well as some of you might know,, I have caused catastrophic failure of the UIM (upper Intake Manifold) on a prior occasion.

Well this evening to celebrate the Superbowl I decided to blow up another UIM
So I was leaving the BHR Superbowl Party. Numerous celebrities present.

Easy must learn to keep his foot out of it.

Well to cut a long story short,,, BAM! blew up another intake manifold.

I'm learning about these big shot's of Nitrous. Be careful under full throttle and high engine load and low manifold vacuum. Bad combination.

Anyway here are some pics of the latest failure.

MM and Flashwing said they could feel the concussion in the house. It was a big one. But the intake only blew into two pieces.
I'll go back in the morning to Ray's and swap intakes.

Setting the standard for intake pressure limits.

Metal might be worse; then the bolts might shear off into the LIM..... ewwww.

Maybe a pop off valve mod? LOLOLOLOLOL

EASY YOU ARE AWESOME!!!

Should add that pic to our nitrous group

to all the uninformed who are terrified of nitrous - this only happens when you spray at below ~4,000rpms as there isn't sufficient vacuum to suck in the n2o/fuel mix and they ignite!

Heh, yeah, same concept of grenades

Sounds like a UIM BOV is needed to protect your manifold from moments like that, as laughable as it sounds

If the intake is engineered to "blow off" under extreme pressures to release excessive compressed O2 it would be inherently safe/r. Question still lies in who has the skill to engineer one of these? There are a lot of complex shapes involved, someone who knows of welding aluminum might be able to get the complex curvature and MAYBE outengineer Mazda's design.

Pop off valve research in progress.........

I forgot to ask, how much pressure builds in the intake plenum under the conditions that would cause catastrophic failure? 60, 100, 200 PSI?

Vegaz...do you have some personal vendetta against BHR or something? I hope it's just a joke. Which btw, is not funny.

no no.. listen.. nothing against BHR.. but last night I had this weird dream that I upgraded to some BHR parts and I was all happy and doing cartwheels.. but that morning I woke up.. and I had to go to work and for some reason my car didn't start.. has to be some crazy coincidence.. but I've met Ray Charles from BHR and he's a cool guy and he knows what he's doing.. he works on Phils Car.. although i think phil's car is still missing in action

I....see....

anyways....back on topic here....

Easy: you must be getting good at taking off those intake manifolds...I removed mine to install the GReddy blocking plate, and wow, what a PITA those bolts are underneath it.

any pointers, lol?

lol... good stuff.

i thought the system was designed to only engage at WOT past a certain engine rpm?

Y'know it wouldn't be too hard to rig up some sort of a BOV to prevent this (Hint Charles ) I mean in a N/A engine the only reason you are going to see positive pressure is if your UIM is exploding

nope, this particular zex kit uses the TPS voltage. you "teach" the module the voltage it should see at WOT and it sprays then and only then.

a window switch would work on any other car but as Charles explained to me the rx8's rpm signal is oscillating and therefore does not work with anything like that currently
