I don't understand how saying their car has no power (which seems to basically be what you want them to say or you won't be satisfied) and then start passing out all kinds of performance freebies is doing right by their customer in any way.
I can't see what this would have to do with them evaluationg RX-8 surveys separately, either.

Could you guys please stop the way off point bickering for ONE minute to post up a new working link to the video?
You've got plenty of people that don't even own Mazda's curious to the cause and the videos are long gone. Despite something someone posted in the THIRD message of this monster thread.
"oh and i should say- i fully expect Mazda's response to the video link being posted will be to have the video removed. Thats okay. its not like its the only copy. but grab a copy if you have time so you can share it around."
PLEASE tell me someone grabbed it.

He's as bad as Can
You asked for a working link, not a private email of the file. Unless a member here owns a ISP that would require a private person putting that video on the servers owned by some company. Which means that after getting one email from Mazda they would have to remove it.
Also USA / Non USA doesn't matter as witness the problems online gambling is having. Maybe you can look for this video on the Torrents?

I want to see the video too?
I have had Major problems with my '04 RX-8, even had the engine replaced (only had 23,000 on the car). I sent Certified mail to Mazda for an opportunity to buy back or replace my vehicle for original price. Due to the article I read about on this site, I did include the following in my letter:
"Mazda’s only concern is getting the customer through the temporary warranty period, rather than satisfying the customer by permanently fixing the problem. This is was verified at the Mazda National Dealer Advisory Council when a member stated “Mazda is well aware of the negative impact on the scores caused by the RX-8 surveys. They agreed with us that the situation had to be changed. And so, effective July 1st, RX-8 will be continued to be included in the survey, but the scores will no longer be included in the results.” Why would Mazda take the time to send out Customer Satisfaction Surveys if they would only be ignoring the scores? Now dealers will no longer be motivated to provide adequate Maintenance Service because there is no incentive whether the end result is positive or negative. It makes me question Mazda’s commitment to Customer Care; especially after the purchase process is completed."
Now the only request that I have is: Can someone send me the Video so that I may actually view it? I think I've earned it....lol

Another unsatisfied customer
Well, I had my car (Mazda RX-8) in the shop for a full month while they replaced the engine. I picked up my car last week (Monday). The car has been working just fine with no signs of problems. Then I stopped by my old house today (Monday - 1 week after repair) to pick something up and when I tried to start my car back up (5 minutes after I shut it off). It wouldn't turn back on. It kept acting like it was going to start but never would kick-in. I called Mazda Roadside Assistance and had a tow truck take it back to the dealer. We'll see what happens now! They already replaced the battery, coils, and entire engine. One week later, I wonder what excuse they will come up with now? Depending on their response, I will probably seek a lawyer at this point. I will keep you informed.

Don't wory Blake182. Rest assured, your dealer will be allowed "... a whole bunch of mulligans". ;-)
Nah, I can't do that to you. I'm sorry to hear your car has let you down. The dealer should fix your car, and under warranty to boot. It really sucks that you'll be without it again while they work on it.

what engine problems led to replacing it?
I have a 2004 RX-8 with 28k miles. The last month or so it has been a real dog. The engine seems to have lost a lot of the zip that it once had and has become downright scary to drive because I'm afraid I will get run into as I pull out into traffic because it takes sooooooo long to get up to speed now. Does this sound like a problem caused by this oild leak that is behind the potential recall?
Does anyone know if the recall is real yet and/or what the specifics might be? Is it just the engine, or are they offering to buy back the entire car... and if so, at what price?
Because of the lost power, I've been winding it out before letting the clutch out so that I don't stall... which I'm sure is taking it's toll on the clutch and who knows what else too. I've been to the dealership twice in the past month, but the line for service was so long both times that I put having it looked at. Now with all the hoopla regarding the video and articles popping up all over... the lines are just going to grow.
So far I had both tail lights replaced because they filled with water and cracked from the pressure when the sun warmed them up. The entire ignition system was replaced (started, alternator, battery) and one of the window motors had to be replaced. And... the damned AC **** broke twice already. I've been waiting for over 2 months for the latest one. The dealer kept telling me it just hasn't come in yet. If they gave a **** about customer service, I would have to think they would just take one off a car in the lot for me.
Damn. This sucks. I do have to say I love the car though and it's unfortunate that it's plagued with problems. I really hope Mazda staigtens this out and keeps making them... only with less problems.

csuttman, Your sluggish engine may be the result of a clogged cat. Have you tripped CEL yet? You mentioned the ignition system having been replaced, has it been floodded?
I'm sorry to hear you guys are having so many problems with your cars. After seeing the "leaked" video I'm certainly no fan of MNAO, but then, I didn't buy my car from them. I bought it from my local dealer and at least they seem to be very customer service oriented. I haven't had any major problems in 2 years / 53K miles either. I have experienced some of the symptoms for which this next reflash/recall is coming and from my perspective, Mazda is responding to a problem with a fix. Thats Mazda, not MNAO. You may not want to think in these terms, but when you consider the number of RX-8s on the road versus how many are reported to have major problems the numbers aren't really much different from any other car. I sucks that some individual cars are just lemons, but that happens to virtually all makes and models.

Interesting... my wife's RX-8 has been nothing but a PITA. The sad thing is I think the car has only about 30K miles. I'm very disappointed with this car... I have owned several Mazdas, but this car has damaged my confidence in them.

Also, a clogged cat does NOT necessarily cause a CEL or anything the car can ID to happen. A CAT is after the engine, so there's not much ENGINE light detection going on. Therefore, from personal experience, I can tell you this....my CAT was SO stuffed up I couldn't exceed 75mph and I had no CEL, whatsoever! I had to argue for the dealer to even look at it. It took 2 visits before they finally agreed to, because MNAO tech line said they should not. They sent me on my way the 1st time w/a reflash and saying all was fixed.

DMP had the same problem- dealer wouldnt believe him when he and everyone else thought he had aplugged cat. dealer A wouldnt look into the cat without a CEL. he went to dealer B whodrove the car and said "yeah it could be the cat lets take a look" when he pulled it down pieces of the ceramics fell out. he still had no cel

Thanks for the advice... but what is a CEL? And how can I tell if it's been tripped?
Does someone know of a thread that has more good descriptions of the engine problems people have had? I haven't rushed to bring mine in because the problems isn't dramatically noticable. My RX-8 hesitates when I first start rolling. As I mentioned a few posts up, I have to wind it up to about 3-4k RPM's before letting out the clutch or it starts very slow, sometimes chugging along until it gets over 4k. It also runs choppy at about 3.5k to 4.5k RPM's, but seems to smooth out at 5k and up. It also seems the warmer and more humid the day, the more noticable it is.
I called my local dealer and one guy I spoke to (not in service) said they've replaced about 10 engines recently in RX-8's. The 2nd guy I spoke to (in service dept) said the engine problems are "ONLY WITH THE AUTOMATICS". Does anyone know if this is true? I have a 6-speed. Could it really be my imagination that the car used to be much more zippy and fun to drive and now I'm just imagining that it's slower? I have an appointment to bring it in Monday, but I'm afraid they are already preparing me to claim it's my imagination.
What has been the progression of indications leading up to having to have the engine replaced? I'm really confused after reading the post by Spin9k that he couldn't even get over 75mph. Mine seems better at high RPM's, but still not how I remember it being. I used to be able to squeel the tires when stepping on it while turning if the RPM's were over 3-4k, but now it doesn't have enough oomph to hardly go , let alone squeel. I don't think the dealer is going to approve of this method of testing the oomph factor though.
I'm also concerned that if I my issue is the oil leak issue and Mazda really does do a voluntary recall... Am I better of taking the recall and buying a 2006/2007 that has some of these initial production bugs worked out... or taking the new engine and hoping that's the last of the service problems? The end of the 48k/48mo warranty period is creeping up on me quickly.
Here's a link to one artice mentioning the possible recall... http://www.keepmedia.com/pubs/Consum...ba=a&bi=2&bp=1
I do love the car and the dealer has been really good about handling the issues so far, but dealing with problems with a new car does have an unfortunate psychological impact that I'd rather not have to deal with. I have ask... would I be dealing with such issues if I'd bought a Honda or Toyota though?
Please Mazda... continue to make it right and keep making and improving the RX-8's. It's an awesome design and I'm pretty sure most new models by any manufacturer have initial problems... which is understandable... as long as me and other owners don't get shafted for being the first to rush out and buy them.

Taking the recall and buying an 06/07 OR getting a new engine???? The "recall" is a new engine if the car fails the test and an updated flash. It's not like they are buying back your car.

I did some reading and found a couple threads about engine replacements in the tech section. I guess them buying the car back was a bit of wishful thinking. I guess if it needs an engine... it will get an engine. Not much to contemplate. Unfortunately, most of the posts I see are people having problems AFTER having the engine replaced. Some are on their third engines and still having problems. Now I understand some history behind the video that started this thread. I'm not looking forward to waiting 30 days for an engine replacement that may not fix the problem. Bummer!
Here's one of the threads in case anyone is interested:
https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...2&page=1&pp=15
I'll post there after the dealer looks it over.

Did any one use "prolong" in there 8,s with the oil to see if this makes a differance, in oil temps etc.
It is supposed to lower oil temperatures, less wear and friction that adds to more power.
That then should help in the above problem.
