What's the concern with 'low level octane gas"--do they suspect detonation???
My understanding (forget where I read this) is that the Series I OMP changes the amount of oil injected based on rpm, engine coolant temp, and the amount of intake air. It would be very interesting to hear how the new electronic OMP works.

Yes, I think the EMOP setting will be the same as the S1.
I somehow think it also makes sense to have a timed cycle for those just cruising at a set Speed/RPM, having twin electric pumps gives them more options.

Hold on bud, it's not "Officially Official" and will never be when you think about it.
Mazda don't want it out there that there is another "weird" regime you have to do with a rotary....not another "oil" check/ad thing.
It does not matter how much or how many flashes you have unfortunately, enough oil just won't reach the middle of the Apex Seal in the S1.

The "It's Official" was me saying "I'm officially going to be premixing". I know it will be helping at LEAST a slight bit with my seals, I'm not sure I believe it's NEEDED....but I'd rather be safer than sorry.

Mazda obviously added the 3 rd nozzle (2009) to lube the centre of the Apex Seal because of the irregular wear showing up (as posted by me back a few pages from a MA Service Tech through my dealer contact in Australia while my car was being looked at and driven by a Mazda Japan Tech on a visit here gathering data), not for no reason at all or that is was not NEEDED.
If you read the Factory Service Highlights on the 2009 RX-8 it says the 3 rd Nozzle was added for Additional Lubricity.
Unfortunately for original RX-8 (04-08) owners a retro EMOP fit is really not possible, so the only other alternative is to pre-mix which must help in lubrication.
If you don't believe me then ask Kevin (tecknics) another Mazda Technician who is also a believer.

the one bad thing (amongst others) about such low sales volume is that, it may be hard to find a 'still new' R3 leftover on the lot when 2010 rolls around, so dealer may not want to make as big of a deal as they would've :-/

Are you saying that most of the 400ish 8's being sold are R3's?
Or that since dealers are not selling 8's they wont be BSing with the price of the R3's?
Anywayz, I have seen a few 09's used already with low mileage (<10k) going for low to mid 20s. Even a few Demo's. Gotta love it.

Hope the government realizes the economy will NEVER recover if this continues. When everyones spending money keeps getting taken out of their pockets for gas the future does not look good. It's certainly not gonna help auto sales in any way either, besides Civics, Corollas, Yaris, etc. Was thinking about upgrading mine to an R3 at the end of the year when discounts/rebates are huge but if Im gonna have to feed it $40-$50 or more per week in gas, I dont think I can justify it anymore as much as I love the car.

Yep, the same here, gas is slowing going up again!!! GGrrr..
The "powers that be" just don't get it, do they ever want the "car industry" to come out of its collapse?, high gas prices contributed to their downfall.
BTW, on another note, Australia has yet do go into a recession..almost did, but we had growth in the last quarter, only 0.4%.
