i dont see any changes in the guages? i do like the red stitching. but the tail lights look like a rip off from a S2000. you would think all the parts are interchangable with the current model except for maybe around the fornt headlight?

nicely done Mazda. I wonder if this is the beginning of a design reminiscent to what Porsche did with the 911. That is to retain the classic original shape but make sequential changes to it. I am glad that Mazda did not go overboard with the changes. Our current mkI 8 still looks fresh.

Some nitpicks:
- not a fan of the new steering wheel in the mx-5, cx7/9, mazda3 and now unfortunately it found its way into the rx-8
- gauges... it's a mixed feeling. i like the silver satin rpm dials. but unlike our current ones when switched off, then entire gauge is darkened.
- headlights. very generic. what i love about our current one is its uniqueness. from the small rotary indent to the laser projector housing of our parking light and the low-beam strakes. it shows that mazda put in added effort to distinguish the rx-8 from the rest of the mazda line-up. these new headlights looks to be from an mx-5.

overall still a positive refresh. i wonder if the recaros will show up here. Love the red-stitched leather. front bumper LED runners look great and adds a touch of exotica.

The recaros will show up on the RS version. Which is actually the vehicle in blue you see here.
There will not be any L.E.D's in the front bumper. That's just a reflection in the picture.

check the bracket above the ac lines (for the 3 point strut) (and the oil filler cap & dipstick)

look familiar?

(too lazy to find the old thread right now... but some of you will recognize these pics)

[Edit: found the thread] https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...ht=2010+rotary

everyone else seems to have noted the the other stuff i'd mention (rear gear position, no fake pressure gauge, piano black up to the vents, steering wheel, clock controls, dipstick [+ cover], etc...)

i think the amber from the corner of the headlight qualifies now- at least with some other new models ive seen. so that clear euro indicator might stay or be eliminated for US

look again zoom:

it's a 6-speed, and the layout is the same as the NC MX-5, so it's probably the same gearbox as the MX-5 now.

coming out that an Oil gauge seems to be easy to use -- it is .
It is attached to the engine cover to the window for a check.

and ....

It is said that the crossing ratio of 6speed missions has changed although it is unidentified.

Not exactly, they just require a side indicator. It can be in front of the front wheels as long as the visibility is sufficient (like the current clears with the little reflector in them). Notice that Porsches and the new GTR us the same side indicator position as our current RX-8.

The shots of the mule clearly show that the headlight housing has an amber relfector in it. These pics are not of a US spec car so I'm guessing there will be US spec and Japan/Euro spec headlight housings... a little more expensive than swapping out corner lights huh?

our friend Jyariten here posted in a now-disappeared thread that says the Nav will now be an in-dash unit instead of the pop-up screen. I assume touch screen now too.

who makes it?
I hope it's not RETARDED like the current nav where you can't set a destination while moving.

pulling from his thread in case people can't open it:

Although details, such as a price and a sale date, are undecided, the reference exhibition model announced in the Tokyo auto salon which begins from 1/11 (Fri.) will photograph, and we will send a taking-down shot to you a little earlier from show.

- Exterior : the form of an order bumper is changed and a head lamp unit and a rear pair lamp are also in a new design. The slit of the front fender side is also changed into the form of side marker one. A wheel and a body color are also new.

- Interior design : renew a center console, sheet form, a steering, etc. For pure Nabih, it is changed into a center panel built-in type from an on-dash type pop-up method, and the unit itself is new adoption about HDD Nabih corresponding to G-BOOK ALPHA.

Addition of "Type RS" (all photographs are Types RS) of a new grade is also news. The exclusive bucket seat jointly developed with RECARO is equipped, and an aero part also equips with a front air dam and a side skirt for exclusive use, or the large-sized rear wing. Front Suspention Cross member filled up with the Billstein damper and foaming urethane is adopted as axle part following the 40th anniversary model of a rotary.
so basically the Nav goes from a DVD-based pop-up screen to a in-dash hard drive based system.

The contents of an announcement in Japan are published.
NAVI seems to be the newest model of HDD by Japanese specification.

folks i dont know how many of you caught this but this is the RS version being shown at the Auto Salon in Tokyo along with those other kitted up models.

Expect the standard model shown at naias next week to be slightly different. fascia could change. seats and wheels will be different and sides will be gone
