The displacement alone of the 16X does not increase torque. It is the fact that they made the rotor vertically larger (rotor is larger corner to coner). Making a longer stroke.

So it is not the increased displacement but the direction of the displacement.

More info............

Mazda did the same thing 35+ years ago with the 13A engine. In simple terms......

13A was a stroked version of the original 10A. 655cc x 2 = 1310cc
13B was a bored version of the original 10A. 654cc x 2 = 1308cc

Torque rating on the 13A was higher. Personally, I have driven a 13A powered R-130 & it easily had more low end torque compared to a carby 13B from an RX-4.

Torque ratings.................

13A = 172 NM (export version)
13B = 159 NM (USA version RX-4)

Does anyone else see some similarity to the Mitsubishi Lancer? I dont like the changes except for the seats, I think the "facelift" makes it look cheap.

The pictures on Mazda's website doesn't really do the red leather justice imo. I had seen the pictures and thought it was a bit too bright, when I went to order my 09 they had one in stock. One look and I was head over heels. If your really wanting to decide, find a dealer in your area and see it in person.

its pretty much a flashy 04 they should have made it stock turbo or something.
