Why wouldn't my rusty brakes/hubs be covered under warranty?

I just dropped my 8 off at the dealer. Between the time I started this thread and dropping off the car, the dealer got a memo (or a TSB) on the fix - sand and paint. They're taking care of it.
I'll post pics of the finished job.

to clarify: The dealer WILL sand and paint the rotors and/or wheels under warranty if they rust. I just had the same problem with mine, with excessive amounts of rust on the rotors. Dealer took care of it no problem. If they give you a hard time, call Mazda USA and they will help you, but it shouldn't even get to that.

the same thing happened to me. i had the dealer buff the drums and repaint with a silver epoxy paint. i also had them paint the calipers blue while the car was on jacks over night. PM me for details on it.

Just back from dealer..painted the hubs with warranty work, they invoiced mazda 93.00 a pair. They look great and I am very pleased. I really hated the rust and felt that Mazda should be responsible. They used hi- temp paint.

Depends on your dealer.
I bought my 8 from an out of state dealer but have service done at the local dealer. As soon as he saw the rotors he brought it up and told me he would have them sanded and painted, no charge. I don't think it was part of the warrenty but he took it upon himself to take care of it, and it looks great. So, I guess it depends on the dealer.

I was waiting for mine to rust first. I have a June 04 production date and the factory must have caught wind of the rusted hub issue and started taking action is my guess. Mine seem to be ok right now although the car is two months old. The hubs are silver and I have a red car. It looks good for now. What color is the dealers painting them?

I took my car in for the brake TSB and mentioned the rust on the rotor problem. They emergency ordered by brakes and I was told that my issue would be discussed this with the service manager and they would let me know something when i brought the car in for the brakes. I got a call ealier today from my service advisor saying that the brakes were in and to come in tommorrow if possible. I called back a few hours later, making sure I would get a rental while the brakes were installed and I was told to hold off on bringing in my car because after talking with the Mazda rep, they were authorized to order new rotors (4) for my RX8 and they will paint the rotors per mazda instructions. Since they are doing the other work, I will pay to have them paint the calipers also. Things are looking up.

My service department (Independence Mazda) rocks. They did a great job on painting my rotors and calipers and even bedded the brakes for me. Even better they only charged my $53 to do it. I have new front brakes now and 4 new rotors. I'm all set now for my new rims come spring.

Most of the hubs look horrible. Any good dealer will paint the hubs with a high temp epoxy paint and not charge you, but i'm sure there are alot of jerks who won't.
