Fixed the crappy leaky gaskets for the rear lights, removed the dealer license plate holder for the front. Don't use front plates here and looks better without it.

Clay bar and spray waxed her today. Bought a touch up pen from the dealership to try and fix some of the small chips around the car. Also bought a black Mazdaspeed t-shirt, the service guy told me I would get an extra 15whp when I wear it! I can't wait to try it out...

Not a sight of an RX-8 to be seen on...

They both look awesome. What brand did you use to recondition your headlight lens?

Black paint is the hardest to maintain.

Going to be installing my BHR coils tonight.

EDIT:
They went in last night like a champ. I need to double check the connector order though. I think I got first and second coil mixed up, 1-4 left to right standing at the drivers wheel looking into the engine bay.

Drove to work for the first time. On the way home myself and a thousand others got stuck behind a semi moving a modular home. These guys should be restricted to night time moves and not during rush hour on a major freeway. Great way to end the day. I did find out that this car does not like heavy stop and go traffic.

Installed new NGK Plugs (I just passed 63,000 miles) and changed the oil, good ol Castrol 5w-20.

...and also put a for sale sign in the window
Wife is due any minute, and there's no way to fit three car seats in the back of an RX-8, will hate to see it go.

Gratz! Always good to hear someone willingly increase their chances of engine failure!

Now here is the logic: Several years ago we were blowing up engines right and left. Left and right. backwards forwards, etc. I started asking around to get some help and ended up talking with David Haskill of SpeedSource. If you've not heard the SpeedSource name before they are the Professional Road Race team running building and running the majority of 3 rotor Rolex cars in the Grand-Am Series. They built the Dempsey cars. They built the Racers Edge cars. They build the Sahlens cars....

They also built the original Renesis cars (like ours) from 2004 until a few years ago. Some of these cars are still floating around. Some have been trashed/wrecked or converted to something else.

SpeedSource has been a factory supproted Mazda team for several years now. David Haskill is the team engineer. David is also a driver. Smart guy. Super nice guy. Very busy guy.

So I contact him and share our issue. One of the first things he asks me is this: "what kind of air filter are you running?". No kidding. Did you know that their 3 rotor engines run THE STOCK RX8 PAPER FILTER? Yep.

We ran a K&N style for a few races just because I thought this technology was the best. It made about 1 more hp on the dyno than paper. So we ran it. We also toasted two motors at Daytona and one at Homestead running the Grand-Am Koni Challenge Series. When we pulled these motors apart we found (drum roll) sand blasted rotor housings where the air would enter the intake ports. Switched over to paper, ran both these tracks again and the witness marks were gone. Problem fixed. David also confirmed that he had saw this before also.

That is the basis of why I beleive paper is a better filtration media. We run the Mazda/AEM cannister style filter that comes with the long AEM/Mazda intake. We also found this intake to make the most torque.

Cheers,

Eric

I saw that when I was looking over the forum and got sad because mine came with the K&N Typhoon.

I'll probably end up replacing it, cheaper than an engine...

Also I did a compression test, test. Did it a little incorrectly which will make me do it over again but good learning experience. This was my first time doing one so i'm not too disappointed about not doing it right. Crossing my fingers the numbers will be good...

I put in new cabin and intake filters, both OEM.

I also used the following DYI to swap the power for my cigaret lighter and my AUX power port so the AUX power port is switched.

https://www.rx8club.com/series-ii-di...ch-off-216447/

Now my newly acquired Miccus Mini-jack Rx will turn on and off with the car instead of having it always powered on meaning it will automatically reconnect with my phone. You can see one wire was pretty tight, I'll have to clean that up sometime.

The K&N panel air filter is what I quoted from above.

The K&N Typhoon intake is a different product that they sell, and is also very terrible, but for a different reason (namely hot air intake, CELs, idle stability problems, power loss)

Ah ok I didn't look close enough, I read " I installed a K&N air filter..." and assumed intake.

And yea I don't like the fact that the K&N filter is on there, especially the noise, it's silly but luckily I have't had any problem yet. I'm going to end up switching it back out for OEM once I get other things checked off.
