Uhh... no. Aside from you posting photos of the trunk interior in this thread, I have no idea which of the thousands of RX8club threads you might have had a trunk size conversation in before.

So, I guess just on the basis of this thread - Sure, they could have made the trunk as big as a station wagon... but that would have spoiled the desired small size, light weight, and chassis stiffness. A bigger trunk opening would have reduced chassis stiffness, which was a critical design objective - and I'm extremely glad that Mazda did not compromise that objective and give us a floppy chassis with a larger trunk opening.

As for the trunk capacity - If I wanted a huge luggage capacity rather than a small relatively light very sporting 4 seater, I had lots of other choices on the market. Trunk capacity was NOT a big factor in my RX-8 buying decision (but hell, it's twice the size of the trunk on my Miata!)

Regards,
Gordon

i can put my guitar and amp in there. i also love that groove so things wont roll around in the trunk. Its big enough, very big for a sports car. if you need luggage, take your car for service and get a nice ugly rental car that they always give you. those ugly rental cars that are the ugliest colors usually have lots of luggage space for dead bodies

No need to buy a microwave, just use the center console cup heater hahahaha

yeah, the opening is unfortunate small.
E.g. if you buy a microwave, it will not fit through the opening unless you take it out of the box.

The size is decent enough, not a lot of problems with the size because it can fit plenty of things providing they actually goes into the opening. And I actually like the little area where you can place things to prevent them from moving around. Great for groceries.

My biggest gripe about the truck is the opening, it should've been bigger than and maybe made into a hatchback but then there might be some loss in headroom. So overall, great car for 2 person road trip or short trips with 4 ppl, but definately not a family hauler for long road trips.

NomisR <~~~~~Yeah...I agree with him. The size is acceptable, but the opening could be a little larger.
