The turn signal and the George Carlin joke
The turn signal and the George Carlin joke
I find the turn signal on the 8 to be very prone to not shutting off. I find myself sometimes driving quite a while before I realize my turn signal is on. I feel embarressed and wish I was invisible when this happens.
but its annoying waiting for someone to turn when they never do... normally when ya overtake them, they either turn out to be some young blonde chick or someone 60+.... otherwise u shout out 'moron, turn ur indicator off' (hehe only on bad days when u're in a hurry)
but yeh, feels embarasing when u forgot bout it.

Maybe some folks aren't familiar with the joke, but the turn signal that stays on is like a sign flashing "I'm stupid as hell...I'm stupid as hell....I'm stupid as hell."
That was such a good joke, every time I see the flashing signal, it goes through my mind.

I think it was Jeff Foxworthy who did a joke on folks who drive for miles with the turn signal on. The line has to be delivered in his trademark hillbilly redneck-ese:
"What's that clickin' noise?"
"What's that clickin' noise?"
The new BMW 5-series I test drove has a fix for this malady. If you quickly flick the indicator up or down it blinks exactly three times and then turns off no matter what you do next.
If you push the indicator up or down more firmly/slowly it behaves as a normal indicator (only cancels after steering wheel is straight ahead again after a turn). This is great boon for 60+ year old people and rednecks.
Of course the magazine reviewers hate this kind of gadget because it takes more than 5 minutes to get used to (just like i-drive). I didn't like the 530i BTW, but thought the clever indicator and active steering and i-Drive were quite good.

I was traveling in a caravan of car club drivers, and we all carry gmrs radios. The last time I left my blinker on accidentally, I got a 'Hey Grandma turn off your blinkers anytime now' call on the radio.
I expect it'll be quite a few more years before I'm a grandma, but that little jibe stuck with me and now I subconciously check my signals. :p

I leave the turn signal on occasionally, usually because the stereo's too loud for me to hear the tick - MOR-on MOR-on MOR-on...
Yet it still drives me crazy when I see other people doing it. I mean, hey - I've got a reason! My stereo's too loud! Those other people are just idiots.

I get annoyed at both. But when someone leaves their turn signal on, and don't change lanes, and you finally try to pass them, and then they decide to change lanes just as you're next to them, and then you honk, and then it's a whole big mess- I hate that.
