As for this forum mentality, I just can't beleive it. I've been a member of the RX7.com forum for many years. The general consensus is that RX-7 enthusiasts are MAZDA enthusiasts. They like all Mazdas. The mentality here is that if it's not an RX-8, it's nothing... not even another rotary-powered Mazda.

I am not by any means a car expert, in fact I'd say that I know next to nothing when compared to most people here.
However, according to a dyno I have of my stock RX8, it seems to me that by shifting at 6500 rpm the driver robbed himself of close to 30whp.
I don't know if I am understanding the concepts wrong, or if the dyno readings are irrelevant or whatever, but just thought I'd throw that scrap out there in case someone had use of it.
I love my car, but yes I think if it had just a little more muscle it would be in a whole other category of greatness. That said, I do love its balance and handling. With a proper set of tires, I really feel glued to the road and feel like a part of the car. I don't know much about oversteer and understeer, but for driving hard on the streets, in local roads or highways, it's always been great fun for me. Clearly I cannot speak for the car on any racing or professional level. Only other car that I can confidently say beats the pants off of it in cornering that I have driven, is a Ferrari F430, which is in a completely different category.
I think the RX8 has a lot to offer if its raw horsepower can be overlooked (which isn't really terrible, it's just not on par with similar cars). What really clinches the car for me, enough to not consider another type of sports car, is the 4 seater aspect. I always find myself having to make use to of all the seats.
That all said, I've had the car for 5 years now. My free maintenance is expired. I feel ready for a bit of change... So I'm putting in a turbo! Wish me luck
