Do any of you seriously think Mazda will do an oil analysis on the engine oil.....see that you have used synthetic oil and void your warranty.............

If the engine blows becausse of a warrantable defect...it will get replaced. If they think that you abused the engine they will have an argument to void the warranty.

Putting more "refined" oil that meets all called for spec's and then some....won't IMHO call for them to void the warranty

If you want to use Synth...use it...it meets and exceeds the specs

If you don't...use conventional oil......and quit worrying about it

And quit starting threads about it...there is more than enough already!

Yes, but the formulation of the synthetic oil interacts with the plastic in the OEM oil filler cap and causes interference to satellite transmission and contributes to global warming.










Or at least that's what I heard...

We're never going to get a rebuttal. At least not a meaningful one. I took care of his argument with my last post. That's the only thing he could have been referring to and it has been proven wrong. Any argument I do get back will be very abstract. Something on the lines of "you're wrong" or "where did you get your information", or "Mazda recommends not to", or "Quaker State says not to becuase their legal department says it is safer to agree with Mazda in public than to spend all the time and effort saying otherwise", etc... We never see any true defense with any real supporting comments. No information whatsoever. Our "few hours" is currently at hour 22 and counting.

I've explained how everything works from how oil is made to what's in it, to how it lubricates and why, right down to how it mixes with fuel and how cleanly it does or does not burn and even talked to the head rotary person in the world himself at Mazda on the topic and the best comeback I can seem to get is "Mazda recommends..." with no explanation as to why they recommend it and a couple of links to a Quaker State oil site that also states "Mazda recommends...". Truly amazing. Persistence without direction is incredible sometimes.

To be fair to Rotor Rocket he has quoted me in the past. Specifically my conversation with Mr. Yamamoto-san. I do find it strange that he had to ask me again who my source was even though he knew it. He has also claimed to have a higher source at Mazda than Yamamoto-san. How? As I had mentioned, he was speaking in very broken English and I don't know any Japanese. My interpretation as to why Mazda does not recommend synthetics was due to the fact that not all are created equally and some may in fact be bad. This is the side that RR has been trying to argue the whole time. He has been trying to say that some work and others don't so why risk it? Since there were known issues in the past with some synthetics, wouldn't it seem safe to still just say that not all of them are compatible? The real reason that they say what they do is because they haven't tested every synthetic oil out there. They have run tests in the past but don't constantly do so. Until they have proven every single one works, they can't claim they do. I did gather that he didn't like Mobil 1 but have no idea why. Many people have used it for years with no issues. It's the most popular synthetic in the world. His comments were aimed at the oil metering system and I suspected that he was addressing the fuel mixing issues. Questioning this I did my own experiments and found all oils to mix well with gasoline. This couldn't be the issue after all. You'd think they'd eventually settle out but they don't. This isn't it. It all goes back to the concerns over surface temps vs oil flash point. The concerns seem valid until you do some homework and realize that all oils burn in the engine regardless of their rated flashpoints. So why would he tell me there could potentially be an issue? In today's society it is just easier to play it safe than to try to convince the world of something opposite what many have believed or so long. Besides how do you explain something like that when you can't even speak the same language?

The 8 is my 3rd rotary-engined car, and I can say with certainty that the evidence is overwhelming (thanks to rg) and I'll finally be switching to synthetic very soon.

Is Idemitsu 10w-30 fully synthetic oil specificaly manufactured for high performance rotary engines, safe to use in a renesis engine? Here in Greece we use Mazda Dexelia 5w-30 non synthetic oil and I don't know if it is safe to switch to Idemitsu although alot of people here state that it is perfect for rotaries...

Well to bump this thread and add a tidbit to the mix, Quaker Stink now says nothing about rotary engines in the oil pages on their site.

I don't use Syn oil in my car because I don't, no other reason than that.

If you want to use recycled cow ****, do it, it is your car.

I like and have run Castrol GTX for 25 years in all my cars and have no problems.

I am still waiting for this great reason for not using synth oils from Rotor Rocket, quess he is stil looking for information. HAHA!!!!

I purchased 12 quarts of Idemitsu 10w-30 fully synthetic especialy manufactured for rotaries. I am planning on using it in spring and summer. In Greece we have temps around 30 degrees celsius in spring and in the summer they go around 40, so I think the 10w-30 will be better in these conditions than the non synthetic mazda dexelia 5w-30 I plan on using during winter.
Do you think that switching between synthetic and non synthetic will cause any harm in the engine?

No I don't, some may differ on it but as long as the oils are good quaity and you drain out all that you can should be fine.
