3 days ago my car got rear-ended while on my way to work by a APS service truck. They totalled my car out this morning. And I'm getting a check to pay off my car payments, and a good down payment. How satisfied am I with my RX8? So satisfied, that I'm getting another in within the next couple of days. But manual this time

I love the vehicle, for all the aspects, but except --- the low-torque feeling from 1k - 3k rpm. It feels awesome when the car is running higher than 3k rpm.
I know that this post may get flamed, but that is my real idea, really.
But this is definitely not a show-stopper. I love my 8 (08, manual).

Highly satisfied except for the gas mileage. Power is just right for me, this car is my office for I'm always on the road. If I get the urge to really haul *** I take the 1000 out for a spin...

I love it because it's one of the few, truly unique cars in a world of automotive BOREDOM, UBIQUITY & ANONYMOUS DESIGNS. Name another car that few people know what it is, without looking at the badge. It's an affordable car with few people knowing what it is - the anti-Camry or even Corvette.
I love the handling. No need to complicate that. As good as it gets for a daily driver that comes anywhere near having this level of handling, period. Few cars are as tossable yet livable.
I love the smoothness of the rotary. It doesn't curse, complain or spit. In fact, it seemingly begs to be flogged harder, unlike most piston motors-- It's silk. And that is a redeeming trait very few daily drivers share.
I love the stiffness of the chassis, with the carbon fiber drive shaft. Mazda did a great job regarding body rigidity, especially given lack of a B-Pillar and the suicide doors. It doesn't have the titanium feeling of, say, a BMW, but rather a sprightly agility due to the light weight of the front end, while still maintaining a more solid feel than many competitors.
I like the clean and elegant interior, although a compass would have been damn nice to have. Yes, some of us still want compasses.
I love it because few people, but intelligent ones, appreciate it for what it is, realize it's truly a piece of unique automotive history, Mazda has singularly kept the rotary kicking, and it allows for an immensely enjoyable driving experience. It's a car where your brain doesn't go to sleep the moment you turn the key. It's seemingly organic.
EDIT 4 YEARS LATER: I've been searching for a replacement for the RX8, have driven at least a dozen vehicles in the last 12 months, and have given up for now. It's October of 2012, my 8 is still problem free at age 7, and it looks I will be driving her for quite a bit longer, not out of necessity, but CHOICE.

Highly satisfied. Just bought mine a few months ago. My wife strongly suggested going for the RX8 instead of the 350Z since I have a little one, and the RX8 actually has back seats. She made a good choice though and I haven't looked back. Gas mileage could be better, but that's not a major issue with me.

Highly satisfied!
No problems at all. Everything feels just right. It's got all the power that I will ever need for a street/road car. Handling couldn't be better. Styling catches your eyes and holds them there - inside & out. Compliments by total strangers all the time. (I was washing mine this afternoon & a 14 year old boy hollers from the street "nice car!" I never saw the kid before & didn't even see him before he shouted to me. Yes, I thanked him. He made my day!) Mod's are just now really getting good. I can imagine what kind of mod's will be available in a couple of years from now.
If this car doesn't get "car of the year", they're friggin' crazy!
My wife said something about not falling asleep while driving tonight. I replied "I can't. Not driving THIS car. Just no way."
And one day, I'm gonna see how the stereo sounds. :D

I would say I am highly satisfied.... With the few cons they have, I love my car... and can't help but to love driving it.
Can't complain about the gas, as it has been researched before I bought.
Transmission is the main problem I have.... I've had the car since late '4 (I have an '05) And the transmission is starting to nub out a little.
Other than that... I've had little to no problems... except maybe a little case of excessive show off.

not very happy at all
with todays gas prices cant get away from 93 in mine.. add something else engine and car sound like they are coming apart. just yesterday added 89 ( with out thinking) and car rides worse then a tank.. this car has issues.
dont think i will buy mazda again. willing at this point to take loss and get something else

I bought a used 04 last December, tore out the whole stock radio and have loved it since. MPG are rough, but what really kills me is the internal rattles. Everytime I fix one, another one shows up. Other than that, great car!

What are you Whining about DFB
You buy a perfoprmance car and compain about the cost of fuel. If you want fuel economy go but a prius.
You put the wrong fuel in and complain about the car - try putting gas into your electric light - then complain they don't work.....
The car is just beautiful. Great to drive - comfortable and has real performance. I do not mind the fuel cost (and I live in the UK where we are paying £1.20 per litre - that's about $6 per gallon to you) - its worth it.

I bought mine to replace the one and only brand new Corvette convertible I ever drove off the dealer's lot....SOB!
My RX8 has been GREAT!!! And I only drove the thing for something to do until the idiots could find the keys to a Miata! 8K miles, no problems, nada, zilch, nichego! I bought from another dealer, Walker's in Renton, WA, and they have been great, too. Forget the idiots in Auburn, WA. Tried to sell me an 07 for 35K with a "bad side" Dents, wheel with curb rash...loved that red & black interior, though.
Love the uniqueness, smoothness, rigidity, design touches,,even the ventilated sun visors. Hey, tip them just right and you can see the red light you're waiting for.
Gas milage could be better, torque could be improved, but it still is a sweet, comfortable and entertaining ride.

traded my 05 for an 09
i traded my 05 for an 09. most of my complaints were fixed with the 09. best car i have ever owned. for what it is the gas mileage is ok. i couldn't figure out how to vote twice but now am highly satisfied. Mazda called and asked if i would be in one of their groups so maybe they will listen about what to do with the next one. rx7 or 9?

excellent value for money. had australian ss vy holden 5.7litre v8 before and the rx8 rewards the driver a lot more.great handling with positive feedback from engine/brakes and steering.fantastic car. p.s. mileage is 25-28mpg (9.9l/100km) on trip from surfers paradise to byron bay and back approx 240km using 98 RON (BP Ultimate ) and cruise control in 6th gear. Push this car and the mileage goes down to the V8 level - 22litre/100km. the choice is yours.Aussie fuel is $1.60 AUS per litre for 98 RON but lower Ron fuel is like kerosine in this country. 5.7 litre V8 is even better on 98 RON - better mileage, acceleration and idling. cheers.

i bought my 05 rx8 about 5 months ago, i previously daily drove my 88 rx7 vert and 87 TII so im pretty much a dedicated rotary fanatic. the rx8 is by far the nicest car ive driven, when you drive this car there is just something about it that makes you feel alive and always excited to drive it, the handling is absolutely amazing even compared to the previous rx7 models yet the ride remains far better than just about any sports car out there. i get at least one person a week that makes a comment about the car, from some younger guys that say " i was thinking about buying one of these, how do you like it"? and of course i can only say its the best car ive ever driven and wouldn't trade it for any car out there. then there is the older guys who see the car and ask " does mazda still put the rotary engine in any cars? cause that thing sounds like a smooth running rotary" and i just smile and yes they do and this has one. i am very proud of the fact the rotary legacy lives on. anyone who asks me about the car all i have to say is "go test drive one and you will never look back"
EDIT* i forgot to add that chicks absolutely love these cars... always a nice thing..haha

I bought mine OCT. 08 with 76,000 on it, and right now I have almost 80,000 on it. I love this car, but stuck in the middle of some problems I am having, but I can tell you no matter how many problems I would ever have with this car I will never get rid of it, which so far only one problem and will be getting it fixed soon, nothing major. Even with some of the bad things I've heard about the 8's it didn't stop me from buying it. Just take great care of what you got and throw most those damn problems away. I'm in between highly and somewhat, but leaning closer to highly if that makes any sense.
