RX8 Satisfaction

This car is horrible! Between the recalls and major repair work it's had, I can't justify keeping mine. I've had the engine, clutch, and transmission replaced in that order all with less than 60K on it. While I'll miss that unique engine tone, I will not miss the sound of the tow truck pulling up to drag it off to the Mazda Dealer.

I own a white rx8 and if someone farts within 10 feet of the car the paint chips. I think I've played scratch and wins that are harder to scratch than the **** they call paint on these cars.

My car is an 05 with 45,000km on it and while it hasn't been a nightmare of issues here is a quick list.
- Auto Highlight alignment sensor went, twice
- Poorly setup clutch has led to worn 4th gear syncro's so now the tranny needs to be replaced. Note on this, I took the car several times to the dealership on this matter of the clutch, CRH looked at it once and fixed it. However the damage was done to the syncro's by then.
- Daytime running lights
- Coils, plugs... think we all know that song and dance.
- One flood episode, I've been skooled since then
- Tiny bit of rust in the rear passenger side quater panel (car is kept in a heated garage and never driven in the snow)
- Mazda's complete kick in the teeth to all eight owners. No Speed 8, no FI, no nothing really
- Moisture in the tail lights

I still love the high revving little devil and look forward to a few more years of modifications and spirited driving.
But......
What I think I love most of all is NO Pistons, that makes it all worth while. The car is in a class of its own.

You either love this car or you hate it.

Well I picked up the Bra tonight and installed it, it sure has enough snaps/hooks/velcro. Will be fun to remove for car washes for sure. WCS, Is the condensation in the tail lights common, I swear I saw some condensation in one of mine after giving it a quick rinse the other day. Repairable???

I like the styling inside and out very much, it handles great and overall performance wise like it very much. I only have (2) complaints: 1st my car is black and the paint seems to chip very easily, I have a Bra on order but in the meantime the paint chipping is adding up a bit. 2nd is the horrendous gas milage, I drive mostly highway and have filled the tank up (3) times (when it was half empty) and the 1st (2) times averaged slightly over 18 MPG, after talking to an auto mechanic at the dealership regarding recommended average RPM to prevent carbon build up he told me to drive it like I stole it, I did and I got 15. 6 MPG. I was getting 24-25 MPG year round with my Acura TL so obviously I'm a bit shocked right now but I hope the smile I have on my face while driving is enough to ease the pain at the pump. Time will tell. Any gas saving suggestions or basically "deal with it".
I'd suggest using the Idemitsu premix. My car seems to be running smoother and gets better mileage.

I have never been a guy to fix up or wanting to fix up the cars I've owned. I just got the full option and left it stock. With my 8, I find myself wanting to dress it up, use the best products out there, and baby the heck out of her. I want my 8 to last a long, long time.

What ratio are you using with the premix, if one does this will it void the factory warranty? What has been your improvement in MPG. I'll be honest, I also usually left a car stock but inherited a few add ons from the previous owner, want to do a few cosmetic things but not much else.

Love cars but not a gearhead in the true sense of the word, have been reading about chip changes that supposedly can add a 30% boost in performance and approx. 20% in MPG, is all this stuff a big rip off or has anyone had any luck? Does Mazdaspeed offer any chip reprogramming options to improve the cars performance??- Jeff

I use around 4 - 5 oz per fill-up, which is around 12 gallons. I use a little less than suggested because I also add Idemitus oil when I need to.

I suggest asking one of the vendors here on the website about the chips and etc.

Been loving it so far.
I bought my 05 in November so not much "fun" driving yet. (Winter tires).
I have a 70 Km commute (35 each way) on a smooth windy road with no traffic and no cops either. Never seen one in 11 years on my road (you know what is going to happen to me on the way home now!!)
Just the odd deer, moose or bear to avoid. (cougar once). The RX8 has a good horn for sure!
I haven't beat my record time from my celica yet but once I get my summers on.......no prob........I think I'll keep this one around for a few years.

I can't get enough of this car. I take it out as much as possible, and it's so sexy. I can't wait to get off work to go driving! :D

An update from my earlier glowing praise of my new 07.

The monster is recovering from the fouled sparkplugs after a series of cold starts and quick shutdowns. I had to have it hauled to the dealer from my driveway. Very disappointing. However, all the costs were covered by warranty, I learned a valuable lesson (let rotaries warm up a bit before shutting them down), and now it drives even better than it did before.

Still love this crazy thing!

I don't know why a transmission goes out with 46k, but it is otherwise great...

^^ what he said. purchased my 04 BB Touring machine last March with 27K on it. minor warranty work and my clutch went out after 8 months. other than that... i'd do it all over again... even if this wasn't my mid life crisis.

My mistress

I love this car. Everyone in my family knows it. They joke about me as "obsessed." I'm not obsessed.................GET AWAY FROM MY CAR.........DON'T SLAM THE DOOR..........NOT IN MY CAR YOU WON'T.........maybe I'm a tiny bit obsessed. My wife hates it. ( I think she's a little jealous) She has driven it maybe 3 times since I bought it in June 07. Kinda like the wife becoming friends with "other woman" It ain't gonna happen.

At current sentiment, I'm keeping my RX-8 till it falls apart.
