First off..........glad you are okay, but go see a doc. I think you have 24-48 hours after an accident to do so. So if you have any doubts at all, go and get it on record.

So..........exactly how many miles are on the ODO now? This might be it for the car, so we might possibly need to know how many it ended up with.

the damage done from those pics are definately worth over half of the value of the car. it's gonna be totalled. otherwise, i'd start smashing stuff on it to make sure it gets totalled

Thanks guys. i did go to the ER after i made the post...by X-rays im alright but im going to check in with my dr if i dont feel better by the weekend and get an MRI my back is realllllly not happy with me along with my ribs/tummy ... this sucks so bad i mean things were finally looking good for me and i had to get plowed by an explore....

basically my main issue with it getting totaled is i only had bare min. coverage on my car bc at this point in time thats all i could afford...so if they total it my car gets nothing it just takes care of the other cars involved.... the cop who is a friend of the family go figure said that my car had atleast an estmated amount of 5000$ in damage... ive really got my fingers crossed that this can turn out just a little bit helping me out bc i have NOOOO idea what i am going to do...

also Dave, the car is at some body shop near my house... Dicks towe company picked it up..ironic huh?? with my last name and all :p.... but i would say take your time bc im in no rush!

i wish someone could give me something hopeful to work with right now...i was trying to look for postive things to think about last night while i was in the ER and i came up with a few and some might get youll to laugh...
-I'm alive!!!! best of em all!!!!

-i dont have to put gas in the 8 any more...lol
-i needed to change my oil but now i have time to wait...
-if its not totaled i get a new front bumper and hood (dave understands!!!)
-my moms not completely pissed!!! actually not at all!!!
-they say bad things come in 3's well that was my third!!!
-Dave cant be mad now that the car isnt washed :p
-my passager side wheel wont make a weird pop noise when i turn any more...

and so on and so on... i was just coming up with stupid stuff to help me not feel like the most expensive thing i owned didnt just get murdered...

and heres the story and so you know...the cops are saying its my fault, that i faild to yeild...which i did no such thing. I was trying to make a left hand turn and i was sitting in the middle lane waiting for a break and then the 1st lane stoped enough for me to go though and they were waving me on so i sat there and waited to make sure no cars where in the 2nd lane and i waited like 2 mins seriously then i decided to ease out and as i was half way into the 2nd lane POOOOOOWWWWWW!!!!! an explore who i dont feel was doing the speed limit bc she was trying to catch the light hit me (basically at a stop) and spun me into another car....the only thing on my driver side is white paint from the people i bounced into...

please if you read this keep your rude comments to yourself im having a bad enough time as it is i dont need anyone making me feel bad!!!

hope you guys either find it funny or think of things that can help out :]


And again thanks to everyone who helped me get the car back on the road in the 1st place....


oh and last but not least Dave, im not sure how many miles, i didnt have a chance to check :p but im pretty sure its much closer to 150....i think last time you where over it was around 145....thanks again!!!!

I hope you feel better soon, the 2nd through the 5th day after a wreck hurts the most.

If the other car was speeding; they can judge the other car's speed from the damage/impact very accurately.

Im not sure, i was talking to my mom about it and she said she thinks its possible my insurance will go after the ladys insurance since she hit me even though i was at wrong. Im mostly worried that im going to wind up with nothing....

Im still feeling like poo like i got ran over by a huge truck, oh wait i kinda did lol...

Thanks guys, but now i am at my wits end. i feel that i have three choices but i cant pick one with out some input....
i am going to get an estimation on how much it will cost to fix my 8...

i will either

A) have it fixed if its a reasonable price
B) try and just get parts from around and have my boyfriend/brother help fix it
C) part it out and have to get a new car....

and to me none of these sound good...but i need to figure out what to do...so any input would be wonderful!!!

The estimate is the most important thing.
Can't really determine what the next step is until you have a ballpark on how much it will cost to fix.

Technically, the cop is right. Just because you were 'waved' thru by another driver, the driver that HIT you did no such thing. YOU are responsible for making sure that other lane is clear, first and foremost. Secondly, there is no way to prove the other driver was speeding and even if they were, YOU are still at fault. No 2 cars can occupy (safely) the same space at the same time.

As far as your car is concerned, if it's totaled, don't try to fix it. It'll never be the same. I believe you can buy it back from your insurance company and then you can part it out to make some money for a down-payment on something else or to just buy a beater for transportation and peace of mind. Being a broke-*** student sucks big time. I know. I agree with everyone here, get the estimate first, then you'll have a better idea of where to go next.

i just talked to the shop its at and the guy said at least 7000$...and i dont think im willing to pay 7k that i dont have to fix my 8...so im prob going to part it out...but still pondering the idea....

Have to agree with the above.....especially since it's $7k to fix it. Knowing what I do know about the car and the mileage, it's probably best to take the insurance money and/or try and part it out at this point Rach.
Sorry I haven't been around, still in-between houses and have been living out of boxes for over two weeks now! Argh!

It may not be worth it to part it out. If you take the money, the insurance company then owns the car. If you want it, you have to negotiate a dollar amount with them to keep it. It may not be worth the hassle. Especially since you needed all this help to get the car running.

and yes, you will need to totaled it. it does NOT make any sense to put any money into fixing it. it will NEVER be the same.

it will cost MORE than 7000 to fix. from the pictures, I KNOW it will cost at LEAST 11K for complete fix.

Take the insurance money and move on.

Grrr i feel like ive said this a billion times not to just you guys but to everyone about the car. i had PIP coverage which is the bare minimal in the state of fl. i do NOT get any money from the car. the insuance doesnt even go and look at my car...


but heres the big update, and you guys cant hate me at all. But i sold the car today to this guy and his wife, hes going to fix it and his wife will drive it, i told him to come join this web site because you guys are so amazing and helpful!

i cant thank you guys enough for all the help over the past like 6 months! so thanks again guys!!! Ill check in from now and then to see how everyones doing.


and again please dont be mad that i had to sell the 8, i had no other option.

and just think, my 8 isnt dead its sleeping and someones going to fix it up nice and itll be running nice and smooth again! i got my chin up, and the guy who bought it is going to send me pictures as he progesses on fixing the car :] and then ill post for you guys!!!

Beer is better, and if you lived 3-7 miles away from our respective homes the way she did, might be easier. There are a lot of RX-8 owners in Pembroke Pines though. Send a PM to munche187 and see if he can help you out.

Tune up might be something you can do yourself though, check out the DIY forum.
