mine has the 34 max volume or something like that... did they change it? Have the put more space between each level to make it go up to 60 now? or are these people running an aftermarket set up?

PS... I like how this became a stereo thread so quickly.

I watch the movies, hear the beep, and I really don't think it's necessary. My personal preference, I'd rather not hear a beep when I redline. Thanks for the free bump though haha.

Okay, that makes more sense.

If you haven't driven the '8, you might want to try before deciding whether to get rid of it or not. I find that the beep is necessary for helping me keep the engine off of the rev limiter at times when it would be an amazingly bad idea to try to keep track of the tachometer.

I doubt the 8 is for you then, minus the styling. TBH with you the redline is the highlight of the 8's performance, and as others have mentioned it's almost essential to have a reminder when to shift (cause the engine just keeps going...)

There has got to be a way to either replace the oscillator or add a relay or something to get the beep back to the nice loud "Dude, I think someone's honking at you" "No, that's just my redline buzzer" sound that my 84 Rx7 has!

Someone tell me they've been behind the console and figured this out!

I took my 8 for a test drive and didn't hear the beep. I was listening for it, expecting it, hoping to hear it.. Nothing. Or at least quiet enough that I didn't hear it over the -relatively low- music, which I had on low volume so I could talk to my passenger about the car as we were test driving.

If you hear the beep often enough to be annoyed by it, you are probably driving your car too aggressively. Are you trying to kill your engine?
