never considered a truck, back in my native countries, they were considered, somewhat, crappy

on a totally side note, how great are trucks here, I see lots of people drive them, and I don't think they are laborors, and yes, in asia, ford trucks are considered the most durable, but still, their interior looks back water

There was an STI on the track yesterday that I passed on the long straight in my 8 . Talked with his passenger who said the guy was not much of a driver but like you say - all he had to do was get it in gear

You guys do know the difference between a WRX sedan and an STI, right? I'm having a real hard time believing what's being said. A stock STI will run mid-low 13's easily, where a stock 8 with an excellent driver would be lucky to get mid 14's. It would take more then a bad driver to screw up that kind of advantage.

Yes it was a STI (unless he just bought the pink stickers ) - I could not believe I got passed him either .
There were a whole bunch of aisian guys a 350Z , STI , Type r integra , S2000 & none of them could drive to save themselves .

Got to agree with this one. Stock for stock an STI puts a serious whopping on the 8. Not even close to a drivers race, the person driving the STI would have to be learning stick for the first time for me to beleive that an 8 kept up with one, let alone passed one. Even an 8 with intake, racing beat flash, midpipe, cat back, light weight flywheel, and light weight pullies would get beaten pretty badly by STI on all the info ive seen.

If we're talking straight line it would be pretty close with an '06 WRX. I'd give the first 1/8th to the WRX with the Mazdaspeed 6 slowly creeping up after that. An older WRX it would be about the same scenario with the Mazdaspeed 6 creeping up a little faster after the launch.

As to your Ford post, I really wish Ford would have brought the Focus RS to the states. It was probably the best hot hatch in the world for a few years.

I totally agree Charles, europeans demand a certain amount of performance and they are blessed with it. I think performance oriented americans are just so used to the domestic auto makers churning out mudane cars that we don't make a fuss.

The big three are good at producing straight line performers but the overall feel of these cars is a joke compared to the euro and japanese counterparts. But they have come a long way recently but they are not there yet.

Toyota is about to reenter the sports car market and I think from there on Toyota will be unstopable. And, if Honda does bring the Prelude replacement based on the S2000 chassis/drivetrain layout and powered by the turbocharged RDX engine things will get interesting. Mazda definately understands it's demographic and I hope they sell well because I want to see bigger and better things in the future.

The thing that never ceases to amaze me is that Ford does things right in the Euro and Aussie market. The Mondeo looks better than any sedan we've got, and the Falcon could easily be a Caddy killer. Even the euro-spec Focus is better than ours. If they sold the current Focus ST over here, I would've even taken a hard look at it when I was car shopping. They should can the current stateside lineup and "boldly move" their overseas stuff here.

This is an upcoming GM car, that if it doesnt dissappoint I could see myslef driving. If there is a version with over 400hp ill probably trade in the 8 for it. That pontiac looks pretty nice, although, its not exactly my taste.

Agree with you there, and I sincerely hope they dont mess it up. Honestly just shoe-horn in a powerful engine and some competent suspension components, and most likely they have a very popular car. The biggest problem I see is a cheap interior. It will suck once they are everywhere, and also when stripped down versions start pooping up everywhere. There nothing worse than having a beast Z28, and having it compared to the 6 cylinder versions that drive around everywhere. As I have said on another thread, I hope to have my 69 Camaro fully restored in about 2 years, and it would be sick to enter both the new and old in car shows.

^, yes, the biggest problem with american cars I think is definitly the interior, I actually considered some, like the SS and Mustang, charger, before buying the Rx-8 but the interior is just so cheap looking that no matter the performance, driving such a cheap looking car (well we mostly see the interior no?) is beyond me

I think the top pick is of a 67-68. 69's have the fog lights. It could be a custom chin spoiler though. Anyhow 67-69 are beautiful cars, and the day I get mine on the road will be my happiest motoring day ever. I have already owned the car for 11 years so it will be somewhat close to 15 years by the time I get the car on the road. A lot of people will never get to experiance that kind of anticipation to drive a car. We should move the whole GM discussion into a new thread, maybe?

The caption for both pics said 69' so I just posted both hoping someone would clarify. Either way, have seen a bunch of 67-69 camaro's lately at track days running modern chassis upgrades and modern brakes, etc. Really great to have a sick muscle car that can run the twisties.

Rumor has it there may not be a 6 cylinder version since GM can't even come close to competing with the V6 Mustang pricing. If that ends up being the case I will give an SS a serious look along with the Evo X and new STI.

I read that Chevy won't be using the new "high feature" V6 but will still use the current pushrod V6 to keep the pricing down. All rumor though...
