I watched a T3 race last year where a Cobalt was racing RX8s. The Cobalt SS was really fast until his brakes and tires overheated then he got passed by a Miata and any RX8s that had not already gone by.
RX8s finished 1,2,3,4.
If you want to race a turbo Cobalt make sure it's not on a straight road...

The Z taking out the Evo...I am actually pretty suprised by that

Z top end has more than the Evo's top end?

As for the chevy...ah **** on it.

At a track stock on stock the SS s/c would take the 8? A drag track, that is. With a few mods the 8 could take the SS, right?

Doubt it...anyway, it is easy to mod a cobalt ss s/c b/c of the supercharger. Pulley change FTW.

O and dark brew...its a supercharger not a turbocharger

Cobalt SS' are quick..........in a straight line.

I know this because an ex-coworker of mine (whom I am still friends with) owns one. Black with black wheels. We went a few spirted drives, and we would go like stink on the straights. He only had an intake. They are rated at like 210 from the factory? I can tell you that's an under rating. At least 210 is making it to those front wheels.
But anyways, once we hit some mountains and the twisties, I never saw him. He faded into my rear view and then he was gone for about 10 minuets. I pulled over on the shoulder and waited for 2 minuets until he showed up. He said he was going like 10/10 of his skill and he couldn't keep up with my 7/10 (not saying I'm a better driver, just driving a better machine). He was on the brakes the whole time and had to get new pads after that drive....
Not to mention the interoir is a joke. The seats are flat and feel like leatherite; the plastic is greasy; the pedals are placed horribly (for me at least), the shifter is notchy, the gauges are from a parts bin, everything screams "rental car!" fleet vehicle. Not for me, thanks. For less I can get an SRT-4 that's even faster and more boyracer!

Not to mention Cobalt SS' are like $24K OTD. You can get a nice used RX8 for less OTD with well under 20k miles and in very nice condition. I did.

So FI is the only way to keep up? No amount of mods will help you cause the SS s/c is already boosted.

Didn't know the SS was supercharged. Great..so even that crapmobile can outrun/keep up with an 8 (straight line). Just gets better and better

Cobalts are mostly crap from an ergonomic and luxury stand point but they will definately walk an RX8 in a 1/4 mile stomp. I have one of the faster times at SAR for a stock RX8 (14.8) and I have a lot of drag experience and I have been beaten by a few Cobalt SS's. But a crappy driver can change the whole scenerio in a heart beat. I have beaten a few 350's at the track and even a Z28 once. That of course was nothing but bad driving because Z's usually run 14.3's or better and a properly driven LS1 powered Z28 should run high 13's easy.

I don't race people from stoplights or any of that **** in my 8, but seeing that video of a Cobalt effortlessly passing an 8...it just hurts my heart. You know? It's like...aah god I can't talk about this any longer..

eh, i could see high 13s for a crappy driver...but mids shouldnt be a problem and i know many people who have reached very low 13s....but i get what ur saying

Yep, it happened... It'll never happen again, but yeah... It was in the mid 90's IIRC which means the Evo was probably dealing with some heat soak and they were also having problems with the Evo brakes for some reason. The Evo will normally pull on a Z at any speed so it was odd the Z had higher straightaway speeds. In fact in other track comparos I've seen the Evo was right on top of the Cayman S so it was odd that the Cayman S beat it by as much as it did as well.

As for the Chevy, they're pretty fast, faster stock for stock than an RX-8. They also are no slouch in the handling department.

unless you can equal airflow. But increasing an engines volume is the easiest way to increase flow.

How about no replacement for volumetric efficency (VE)??

i don't know why it matters. i don't think any of us that are educated about the 8 planned on trying to race anyone off the line. and yes, the SS is pretty crazy fast for a cobalt in a straight line. my brother got one since he likes to drag and no one ever expects it to do much but i rode shotgun and it's fast. i tried to drive it but couldn't get used to the gears and wasn't able to do much with it.
