valvoline. sae approved and technician's preferred brand.

it has a wide range of grades available. and even straight grades, so 30w here of valvoline...why bother paying for multigrade here in so-cal? it don't snow...weather changes are not THAT dramatic here to really call for a ?/w30 oil.

so...whatever thats cheap and has current SM grade works for me.

valvoline.

how about a poll separate for transmission and differential?

what brands are out there for trans and diff???

i use royal purple for both currently, but may find something different for the trans on the next change.

chime in on the brands and and grades and for trans/diff... this'll be interesting. wait till i get the brands, then i'll start the poll thread.

I have run Castrol GTX 20/50 in all my rotary engines dating back to 86. Every engine went over 200.000 miles and still had 70psi oil pressure. My Renesis now uses 10/30 GTX.

Looks like a lot of Castrol fans.
Anyone hear anything about Quaker? That's what I generally use.

Quaker's state is a shell company.

I've used their Advance Q b4 for maybe 3-5K miles. Its ok IMO.

5w30, btw.

Castrol is famous cuz its sooooo easy to get and .... cheap. Quality is good. not a bad choice.

I use Royal Purple of course. but I just had Shell Full Synthetic 5w30. Not a bad choice I think, and at 15-16 bux for 6 quart (after MIR), I think its worth it

It's an Eastern oil brand anyhow.

It's hard to find it out here in Calf. So to stay consistant along with all my other vehicles Castrol. Been using Castrol for over 25 yrs. now.
I'm in California and the Havoline I am using for my RX8 is blended and packaged nearby in Richmond, CA....Havoline is produced by the Chevron Corp. although I agree it is not quite as easily available as PNZ,QS,CSTRL. Most WalMarts have it tho.

Pennsoil 5W-20
20K miles on my 05 sport and not a lick of problems.
I do add a bit of 2 cycle oil when I take it autocrossing just to make me feel better.

Royal Purple Oil. I was talking to my brother, he has an RX8 too. He told me about new oil in the market. 0W - 40 viscosity oil.
A Zero viscocity to statrt is great, it would lube the engine at it's most critical point, starting up. Subsequently the viscocity would climb up to 40 ( or 30, or 50 which ever the secondary grade )
Sounds good.

Currently using Idemitsu rotary-specific 10W-30!!

I used Royal Purple till about 40,000 miles...a compression test showed kick *** results yielding only one slightly less than perfect apex seal in my 1st rotor.

RP seemed to break down quicker as I noticed vast differences before and after an oil change. I've had better results with the Idemitsu.

Pennzoil Platinum 5W20 in sump with Lube Control LC20 added at prescribed rate.

Idemitsu Rotary Premix (IRP) through OMP (Sohn Adapter) with Lube Control FP Plus added (1 oz per quart as an antioxidant when added to oil tank).

Premix in fuel - IRP with FP Plus (6 oz IRP and 2 oz FP Plus per 12 gallon average refill)

Pennzoil?

Your gonna get carbon with that. It may be fine for a piston engine with alll the gummy residue left behind, but not in a rotory.

Well, don't tell my FD that. It's still running on the original 14 year old engine and turbo
