Keep the OEM metallic color, as that will give you the nicest look when its finished.

And then sing "Paint it Black" by the Rolling Stones, because that song rocks.
But not in front of the guy at the body shop because he might get the wrong idea...

OEM it is! The car is going back in the shop next week and getting a new coat of paint. I hope it turns out nice.

Mine has so many chips on the front bumper and hood... Ugh why do I tailgate so much?!

When I get mine repainted I might go BB or VR... Hard call, just sick of gray. Out of 10 cars I've owned 5 were some shade of gray, although I do like this one the most.

Don't know about that.

Lets see...

I owned a Black '92 Buick Park Avenue Ultra that was Black.
My next car was an '07 Nissan Altima 2.5S in Majestic Blue that I bought new.
Then the next car I bought was a '98 Porsche Boxster which was Artic Silver.
Then those two were traded in on my '11 RX-8 in Black.

If Mazda had their act together, I would have bought a CX-5 in Zeal Red or Stormy Blue Mica, but they don't want to sell either of those colors here in the US with a manual transmission, for some deranged reason. Have I mentioned that before?

Next car will be the Alfa Romeo 4C when it goes into production, and arrives, but the color its going to be has yet to be determined.

BC.

U have a 2012 8gt. Managed to get a long scratch on left rear quarter panel that streams into tail light any quick fixes other than mazdas fingernail polish I used that on my 05 looked worse than the scratches. Both cars are silver

Dang that Triple pearl color!
Metallic paints are tricky, but your problem isn't your choice of a Velocity Red car; it's your choice of body shops. A good shop can absolutely match/blend perfectly first try. A good shop costs more, but as you're finding out, you get what you pay for.

Next time, ask around town, call high-end dealerships (Porsche, Ferrari, even BMW), visit high-end car forums, and find out the good body shops in your area. Will save you time and frustration.

I will do that. However, at this point a complete repaint is the only way the car is going to look right.

The Eight goes in the shop (again) Monday. It will be completely torn down. The bumpers, trunk, lights removed, and sanded all the way down. It will be primed, sealed, painted, and cleared a couple of times with the OEM Velocity Red paint. I will try to get over there and take some pics while it is being taken apart and sanded. Stay tuned!
