I'd just like to add not all fords are a POS. My dad's 89 mustang gt hit 170,000miles w/o a problem on a total of about 8 oil changes. (not counting recalls) When we pulled the motor and rebuilt it to sell the car it was still in pretty good shape, just all the gaskets were total crap.

All NEW fords are POS.
Same for Chrysler's. Think if $5000 has to be added to price, for each car, just for employee benefits. How cheap the cars have to be made, to compete with Jap cars.

Just a thought...
I don't believe that. Japanese cars have been made to resist rust due to the salt air they receive during shipping. American cars only recently started using galvanized steel in their body panels. You can see the results of this on the road today. There are a lot less rusted out cars on the road than there used to be.

Well, I had a Mazda Mx6 1990 - Rusted.
I believe that car was built on the Ford Probe assembly line in Michigan. My son has a 1994 without any rust.

Anyone who ever owned a Ranger or an Escort will tell you not every Ford is a POS.

yeah not really self sufficient- they invest in joint ventures all over the world to increase capacity /update factories

as well as people

and without this investment Mazda would be producing cars now with no budget to advertise them.

I used to have a lot of fun with that fact when hearing the old Chevy vs. Ford debates. I owned a 86 Malibu and a 91 Escort GT and would get asked which brand I liked better. I would comment "Well my Chevy hasn't started in 2 years". To which the Ford group would start laughing. I would then add "and my Ford actually has a Mazda engine...". The faces I got were always good for a laugh (from me that is).

Malibu is long gone. Escort has 185K on it and only takes oil changes to keep running with 28/32mpg. It really changed my mind on mazda engines after I got it.

Wow, people here do not like Ford. Ford is a global company that owns Jaguar, Land Rover, Volvo, and a healthy portion of Mazda. The first two are not profitable due to the low volume market and high labor costs in Great Britain. Volvo makes a decent profit every year (around $700 Million). And Mazda has been sharing Ford platforms and engines since the mid - 1990s.

Lastly, Ford sucks in North America, there is no question about that. The only two cars that really sell well are Mustangs and Pick-ups. But in Europe, it's an entirely different beast. Ford makes a healthy profit on the Mondeo and Focus in Western European countries. In Russia, Ford has the largest market share of cars sold, even larger than the domestic carmakers there. In Romania, the locals are praising Ford like Gods because they are buying out the local carmaker there.

IMO Ford is the Detroit company that is most likely to survive compared to GM or Chrysler.

?? Aisin A-1 built the manuals and Jatco made the autos - both belong to Mitsubishi.

Moving target.

Ford just doesn’t quite get the fun of driving a really responsive car.
I test drove a T-bird last year - what a disappointment. Even a Mark VII drives better.
Hell- even my wife's old DeVille drives more responsively.

This spring, just for grins, I autocrossed the ’94 DeVille.
I was only 2 seconds slower than the Stangs – in a 4500 lb limo!
I might even have shaved another second if I had used the parking brake to swing the rear around the hairpin.

I challenge Ford to let Mazda build the Kabura as a 2-seater & stick that sweet little quad cam 4.6 in it.
They could even stick the T-bird brand on it.
That would be amazing.. A T-bird with REAL THUNDER.

Ha. The last Thunderbird motor was a joke.. Trust me, I have it in my LS. Dont get me wrong, decent & powerful motor, but just too many problems. Atleast the 00-02 LS Motor. The later versions werent as bad I guess, a little more power and stability.

dear OP.
do a little research on power indices. here's 2 to start you off: banzhoff power index, shapely-shubic power index.

check it out. having veto power makes any one 1 person/corp a very powerful player. especially when all the other players have no where near the shares ford owns. interesting stuff to be sure.

btw, as far as i know, if a company buys 5% of a rival company its called a hostile takeover. multiply that by 6x.
