I had always thought the "RX-8" message at "ignition on" was rather superfluous, as if I didn't know what I was firing up.

Thank you for giving a different perspective on this tiny bit of RX-8 function.

Last night, I was reversing out of a parking space. Normally, I never look at my gauges when reversing as I'm looking rear, front, sides, all paranoid like so I don't hit anyone or curb my rims, right?! Okay, so last night for some mainy reason I look at my gauges as I'm reversing...the freaking speedo measures speed in reverse! Now that may not sound very cool nor like a bounus. But damn, it was cool. The only things I've owned with a digital speedo are motorcycles & they are without reverse gears so I'd never know to look anyhoo. Analog gauges, as far as I can remember, do not move while in reverse. So that is another reason why I'm sprung off my car.

 

I have a funny feeling my car likes me. It acts like my `69 Kharmann Ghia came back from the dead and is now on steriods.

What are some new little things that u can do the 8 that would help gain Hp and give it a better sound.. I already have the Borla and now im lookin for an intake....

 

Bigger better battery! I was amazed how much difference this made, especially in cold weather...I had been using the stock battery since I got the car - it worked fine, turned it in when it got a little funky - Guys at Valley Mazda replaced it - and threw in a few extra amps about the recommended 575 - those amps really keep her happy when climbing hills!

Make sure you use a good grade of gas, I like Texaco and Shell and so does the car..
Just made a delightful discovery on our little Blue 8 - it has heated side mirriors - I knew they seemed to be clearer than the sides on my old 323 whcih usually had to be rubbed down on a moist or cold day - but I did not know that this was all part of my pqckage...I love this car!

 

Been awhile since I posted to this thread, but something happened this weekend that was worthy of posting here I went to eat at a restaurant at the beach near where I live and there was one parking spot left (a parallel spot of course). A Lexus RX330 was trying like hell to get in there, but he gave up after 3 or 4 tries. There wasn't much room because the car parked in the adjacent space had over run the line. I pulled a quick u-turn and slid my 8 right in there with no problem. Even my wife, who could care less about cars, was impressed. Sometimes it's very cool to be small and nimble

 

what kind of battery did you put in? optima?!

 

After 53K miles and 3 years my 8 dyno'd better than the 4 other 8's at the dyno day. Unlike a piston engine it gets better with age.

 

Out of curiosity what were the dyno numbers

I dyno'd 195 rwhp uncorrected. It was 52 degrees F outside. I did 4 runs and all were the same.

 

the way the car sounds when you start it up in a garage is soooo nice. i don't do this every day, but when i do it makes me freakin grin from ear to ear. it's so unique, and perfect.

Three week owner here, so I'm still discovering a lot of things. I broke 800 miles today, so I'm thinking, oil change at 1000?

Ok, so as for my detail to add, have any other owners noticed the noise the xenons make? I was in my buddy's garage on day one, and when everything was still and the ignition was off, I flicked on the headlights. *ffffffffzzzzing* Headlights warming up. :o

 

That noise might be the headlights adjusting up and down.

 

no, I don't think so. It lasts for a moment or three longer than the headlight adjustment, and carries the distinct zing of superheated gases or fillaments. I'm not sure what the chemistry involved is, but its noticeable.

 

I had my car into the dealer for service this morning...as I was sitting in the customer lounge I heard this awesome revving sound coming from outside...I leapt from my chair to check out the exotic that was making this glorious noise, and through the window I saw the familiar black form and license plate number...the mechanic gunned it one more time, then shut it off and got out of my car.

MY car...I still can't believe I own such a bitchin' beast.

Today was the first day back at school for the kids & its only a two mile drive through town there . For some odd reason it's a ten mile drive home through some very twisty roads in the country . Go figure ......

 

I got my 2006 Winning Blue the day before Thanksgiving after agonizing between it and a Speed6. Now I wonder why I even considered the Speed. The 8 is such a unique and beautiful automobile.

I love the way everyone’s eyes lit up upon seeing the car, then gasp in astonishment when I opened the suicide doors. It’s not a daily driver and it still feels magical when I get it.

I’m glad I found these forums because I’ve learned so much from the community here.

 

I like how the car shakes if you rev it a couple times between 8000 and redline, while parked. Then the nice burning smell in the garage akin to a class C electrical fire.

 

hmmm - think that could be one nobody else has ever thought of - or is ever likely to for that matter .

 

here are a few i don't think anyone added...(though i didn't read all forty five pages)

1. Every time i go to get my car washed the people washing it look at my car and think I'm a movie star! Makes me feel that much more special

2. I'm in college and my teachers are jealous of my car

3. Women love it!!!

4. The heated seats are godlike!! the best is when your driving at night and its brisk out so you put on the heat and open the window or the moon roof and put on the heated seat... makes me feel soo ahhhhh...and relaxed

5. the beautiful faint popping the exhaust makes when the car is still cold (stock exhaust)

6. With an intake... the car is only loud when you want it to be

the list goes on and on...

 

i just want to add that i was originally going to complain and ask for advice on my window rattle but right now i think im gonna go find a windy road and have some fun!

 

This isn't a "little thing," but how about life-saving handling ability? I was driving at night on an Interstate recently when I looked off the road, then back to it; all of a sudden, about 30 feet ahead of me (guess on the distance, but very close) were a couple of chairs that had fallen off a pickup. I instinctively -- believe me, no time to think -- veered right onto the shoulder, then back onto the road, missing the chairs. Since the road was built high at that point, had I lost control, I'd have plunged or flipped down the side. Thank God, the car stayed true, never slipped on the loose shoulder pavement, never even seemed tempted to lose control; it sharply bolted off the road and back onto it without missing a beat. I was VERY impressed and am still alive to tell about it.
