the TPMS in the RX-8 has a high and low limit. the low is 27psi and the high is 37psi. thats 5psi over or under the factory recommended 32psi.

Bunny- if you had 52psi without th elittle indicator lit on the dash there is a problem with the sensor. but i wouldnt worry about it until your next regular maintenance. just check your pressures every couple of fuel fill ups.

now that this has come up- this is the time of year when we start getting "my tpms light came on for no reason" threads. watch for them. the first post will say something like
they'll be a dozen of these by the end of the month. oh and of course its frothy dipstick thread time too.

 

My '06 doesn't detect that it's over-inflated, maybe something wrong with the '06 sensors and they should do a recall.

Good to know about the high also. My luck it got damaged or something. I should be finding out around the end of the week if my sunvisor came in so I will then set up my appointment very shortly thereafter for the recall and the visor replacement. I will definitely mention it to them then.

 

Interesting. I was definitely checking for the light, too, since I had just had the tire repaired and was concerned about how well it would hold the repair. There was definitely no light and no beeping. Definitely something to ask about when I go in. I did read through the tire sections in the manual about the TPMS and it only ever mentioned if it was too low.

 

I just experienced that to a limited extent.

Could you also check on the tire pressure Mazda uses to ship RX8s. I know new MX5 owners report often getting cars with a harsh ride that turns out to be the tire pressure being left over 50 PSI from the overseas shipping. I assume the incidence of that will decrease with government mandated tire pressure devices IF they also detect over pressure. I think the government just requires reporting too low and not too high readings.

This thread is *somewhat* funny, but not quite......a girl complains about some guy who overinflated one tire, a couple other guys make fun of her, and a guy who claims that works for a big tire chain shop keeps calling tire pressure as "phi"

Nominal tire pressure for *almost* every street car with "normal" tire size is 30-32psi. Anything above 38psi should be checked, as well as anything below 25psi.

I have raced my cars using stock tires with 40psi (for minimal wear and tear) and I have had zero problems. Ofcourse 40psi and 50psi are a world apart, but I don't think this means the end of the world

End of story.

 

I would be much more at ease being entertained if people didn't actually take her seriously

 

its like 50psi. part of the Pre- Delivery Inspection or PDI the dealer is supposed to reduce tthe PSI to the normal recommended pressure- many many, too many really, cars get of the lot without that being done. they have aCHECKLIST to follow.
