Im_DANomite didn't do anything wrong ,its not like you were down the street he wouldn't help you. 1.5 hrs is a long trip and he doesn't know you. If your the one with the bad luck why should he give you a $500 discount. Would have been nice yes, but I wouldn't expect a stranger to make that trip for me.

Not that it was ever my intent to judge. I was just stating what I'd do under similar circumstances... The extra $150 offered by mommy would've been the clincher for me... assuming I was physically able to make the trip.
But for the OP to then call him back and expect him to cover his loss without even knowing mommy offered to pay more some time prior? heh... no thanks.
Too much drama for me... besides, I'm a Target shopper.

I know Dan and I also know for fact that his turbo is not working properly or maybe by now not at all so, how can you get somewhere when you actually have no means of transportations?? To me, this is just one those days to remember ( not that you want to anyway)

Dude, don't blame him for your round of bad luck.
I'm sure most people would be willing to help a fellow member out within reason......but 1.5 hours away, without a car, and for less $$ money than agreed on? That isn't within reason.
If anything, YOU are the BAD GUY for weasling out of a verbal agreement to buy the tires from Dan.

^ sorry but this post is ******* hilariously stupid. He is the bad guy for offering him more money to help him out while he is a few hundred miles from home and getting denied for whatever reason? Too good.

You both have vaild points. I was neutral at first, but after reading this thread, I must side with DAN. You low balled him; in which case I would have done exactly as DAN did.
If you REALLY wanted the rims, what you should have done was this:
Buy the stock tires for $500, call DAN and let him know whats up, then ask him to meet you half way where you would pay him $1500; BUT when you got back home, you will wire transfer/paypal him another $625
That's only if you REALLY wanted these tight rims.
DAN has done nothing wrong.

^ that's a good point, but that would have never happened as Dan wouldn't have driven there. This is all just water under the bridge at this point. Oh well, the OP got a good set of rims in the end.

I wouldn't have driven 3 hours, round trip, to sell some tires/rims. Even if someone was paying me for my gas & time for the trip. And if someone tried to lowball my price by 25%, I'd tell them thanks, but no thanks, and I'd sit on my happy **** at home with my rims...
I sold a part off my truck to a friend for $900, and when he had money problems and told me he still wanted it, but couldn't pay more than $800, I told him to deal with his problems, I'll hold onto the part, and when he doesn't have problems anymore, he can pay the full $900... It's not my job to discount "for sale" things just because of a sob story from the buyer... That's fuktarded.

Why did he weasel out of it? He wanted to spite Dan.
Ever hear of AAA? Or Fix-a-Flat? O a spare tire?
It isn't Dan's fault that the op didn't bother to take appropriate precautions.
And for all we know, Dan may have turned away another club member willing to buy the items for $2K, because the op had already promised to buy them.

There's nothing fucked whatsoever about his observations from a business perspective.
I got the message. He may have helped if he was in a position to do so, but that was his call to make regardless. That doesn't make him an *******.
You have no idea the obsenities that'd be forthcoming from my piehole if I had to take 3 hours out of my day to take care of a deal I intentionally wanted to go local with to begin with.
Just cause I would've helped the guy it doesn't mean I'd have been happy about it.

lol
yeah ok, I weaseled out of the deal. Man I knew some of his little cronies would come to defend him, I did not "lowball" him at all. The deal was I was going to his house, to mount the rims and then come away with them. Well about 60 miles from HIS house, in the middle of nowhere with NO one to call, I get a flat that is just straight out unfixable, with the other tire about to go. At this point I call him and he just goes "eh whatever", then I leave to go try and find a shop and find out my mom called him after figuring out that NONE of the shops/car rental places/ uhaul places were open period. After finding that out I guess she called the guy and said she would pay him an extra $150, to get them there. As far as 2 hours away ....... please we were about an hour away.
So there I am stuck in the middle of nowhere, with no one to call and no shops open ........ gee what the hell am I going to do? Not much options in that situation. So we now have a guy who doesn't want my NOW $2150 in cash. Now lets put it this way.
In this situation I would have
A) Being a fellow rotorhead I would have come to give him the rims, period. THERE IS NO QUESTION, I would do it for FREE, without the $$$ incentive, maybe I'm just a "good" guy or something, but I would do it. If i didn't have a car I would call a friend, or rent a car, I would FIND a way to do it. That's because I realize the guy is SCREWED like I was.
Seriously go ask your friends what they would do if there was $2150 in CASH on the line for you, I realize this is a little different but a normal person would want the cash, the "inconvenience" of driving out there is covered by money. By not being able to help your the one losing on $2150.
Since he didn't come help and I would be posting a "wow Dan is awesome guy" instead I have to question what he is? Is he a good guy ? **** no, is he a bad guy? In my opinion yes., I didn't "hide" any part of the story. Trust me do you think I want to say "yeah my mom called him behind my back?"
So after everything was done this is the exact conversation I had with him, to end it all. "hey man I just paid $500 for a tow truck + 2 new tires and I really can't get the new rims unless he came down a couple hundred in price, and he said "no im already selling them too low so I can't do it" I said ok bye"
Thats exactly what happened. The thing that prompted this post was the for sale thread where people are like "wow i can't believe you haven't sold these yet" well thats because he didn't WANT to sell them bad enough.
I don't know I knew his friends would jump on my case, I guess that's just forum politics or whatever, but I've told my side of the story and it's EXACTLY what happened.

Zoom Zoom....
I'm not friends with either of the parties involved, but....
1. It was an honest request from the O/P for some assistance.
2. It was well within the rights of the seller not to change the terms at the eleventh hour.
Bottom line. This was a deal that didn't get done. I think that both parties should move on with their business.
Just my 2 cents.
Peace out.
