Talking Im_DANomite's tires - funny story

ok since I am kind of new around here I'm going to tell you the story of what happened and you can make up your own mind. I was actually afraid of telling the story because Im_DANomite seem's to have some friends around here and I am relatively new, but after 2 weeks of debating whether I should or shouldn't post it I decided to go ahead with it. Is this a true story of a BAD GUY? No he didn't **** me out of money, and no he didn't "cause" any of the problems that I had, but I cannot say I would ever deal with him again.
I will try to deal with this leaving out as most "personal" opinion as I can, after I just say that he is a douchebag, and I wish I could punch him in the face.

Anyway on to the story. So as we all know he is currently selling his gold volk sf-challenges on the forum, he is asking a fair price I will give him that, $2000 for the tires + rims. Seeing how I had just recently got paid and had about $2400 on me I figured I wanted them and PMed him. So after a couple of PM's with him, I started to ask how much it might be to ship them, his response was he didn't want to ship them and that it would be "too expensive", and I said fine I would be willing to come down there I guess for em.

So Two Saturdays ago I went off to get my rims and since my mom had a friend in Virginia beach we were going to go down, get the rims and tires put on the car, and then drive up to Virginia beach. Sound's like an awesome weekend right? Wrong.
So coming over the Deleware Memorial Bridge I get a flat tire, 60 miles from the place of the rims + tires. I stop at a rest area and try to fix it, and the tire is DEAD (Picture attached). So we pull into the service area which is right up the road. Theres a garage there so we are like "we have a flat tire can we get a new one? or something" they say no they don't do car work they just sell gas, then we go over to the air pump and guess what the air pump is broken and doesn't work. Finally I go over and buy a can of fix a flat, and try to get it to work, and THAT doesn't work because the stem is broke and there is no air getting into the tire. So being stuck in this service area we have no clue what to do. So I call Im-DANomite and say "hey here's the situation" and his response is "so give me a call when you have it fixed". Seeing how we are in Newark Delaware with no friends or family around. So we try driving the car up the road to another garage, well after about a mile we realize it's no luck and we might kill the brakes/caliper we pull over.

So now stuck in the middle of the road, we are out of options. I leave to go get a phone book / try to find out if theres a place around that can help, that doesn't work at all. So when I get back we first we start off by calling the garages around the area, none of them are open. Next we try calling a tow truck company. They say they will tow it but they don't have a tire. So we try to call a car rental place to rent a car and go up and pick up the tires and come back, well at 3:30 on a saturday they are all closed, uhaul place the same thing. So now we start calling tire places, and all of them either A) don't have a tire that will fit the car, or B) are closed. So finally I find a tire place ........... at 6 PM that says I need 2 new tires, and its going to cost $500, and im forced to pay it or keep my car there till Monday.

During the period that I walked to go get a phonebook and try to find a solution, supposedly my mom who had the cell phone had called dan and asked him to bring the tires, and offered another $150 to bring them. His excuse "i don't have a car, I have things to do etc etc ......" Now when I got back and heard this I was literally just like "wow what a ******* douchebag" and decided I didn't want him to get the money in the first place. Obviously he didn't want the money and wasted my ******* time, yeah did I get screwed by murphy's law? yeah I did but still man this all could have been avoided i Dan wasn't a douchebag.

So finally I call and tell him I can't do it unless he lowers the price, and he's like "no" and instead of bugging the **** out on him like i wanted to I just let it go.

I wasn't really going to post this, but then when I found out that he has been this way to OTHER people who tried to buy **** from him. His rims are still for sale because he didn't WANT to sell them, I had $2000 in straight cash and he didn't really want them.

Seriously I don't care how many of his "friends" on here try to stick up for him, I'm just telling you guys what happened.

bummer too hear about what happened on the way over there, that really sucks. $500 for tires??? yikes.

It sucks that Dan wouldn't go over there to help you out or at least offer up some advice on what to do / where to go. I guess "technically" he wasn't obligated to but c'mon, help a fellow rotor head out, he's about to give you $2k.
Good luck with everything, hope you find some new wheels / tires soon.

i fail to see how any of this is his problem or issue.....granted you were going to transact a business deal it might have been in his best interest to meet you somewhere to conclude it......but your shitty luck and terrible train of events have nothing to do with him as a person.....if i were in his shoes i might have done the same thing....you want the wheels at a discounted price then you come to me....if you cant make it then i sell it to some one else....aside from that im not gonna drive a long distance to meet some one i dont know and possibly get jacked

I just opened google maps and did a search from my house to Newark... it's about an hour and a half away. I asked myself what I'd do if in that situation, and it was really easy to answer. I'd have packed up two of my winter wheels and been off for a 3 hour excursion for a fellow rotorhead.

Then I came back to the forum and did a little more searching. Danomite is in Severn, MD... well that's about an hour and 15 minutes away from Newark.

Should he have helped? You now know what I would've done... but then I'm a sucker for those in need.

Hmmm....Chrism I think you are wrong on that note. People should care a little bit of what their reputation is. You are one of the only people that I thought would DEFINITELY agree with this situation, but you aren't. It seems kind of hypocritical to me when I see you say "I like to help everyone out" and then turn around and say "screw you," basically. Wha????

Sucks......I'm afraid I would have been driving too...but you can't say he's a bad guy cause he didn't...there could be tons of extenuating circumstances as to why he couldn't help you out......

Wow, that's quite a story, sorry to hear about YOUR bad luck; what would you have done if he lowered the price?

He did, I gave him mine for a great price along with a bunch of other goodies which I am helping him install

Chrism... really? He offered him extra money, was hundreds of miles away from home and dan wouldn't do **** to help at all? Definitely not someone I would value as an asset to the community at all. The dude drove from UPSTATE NY there, and he wouldn't help him in the tiniest way? HILARIOUS. I agree with BigRed on this one, you are always all for people going above and beyond and helping others out in the community, I can't believe you would respond the way you did.

Man, sorry about your luck. I am sure that until we are all put into this type of situation we really don't know what would go on, I would like to think I would come help you out. Then again, we don't know DANomite's reasons... maybe he was in the middle of something important? It sounds like it worked out in the end, because you got something you wanted from a good member who will help you out w/ the install........ which is priceless at times!
Chris, I'm kinda surprised by your answer also. You may very well have felt that way when typing your response but I bet if it happened to you that you would have been there. I have noticed several times where you went out of your way to help out fellow forum members and I'm pretty sure that would have been the case here.

wow...

first off, how is it my fault that you were not prepared for a roadtrip? don't you have a backup plan for emergency situations? i don't even know you, so why am i a douche for not driving all the way to another state to help you out?

you asked if i could bring my Volks to you. i told you i didn't have a car. the reason i didn't have a car was because my turbo was blown and the car was not driveable. that's no lie there, a couple of RX8 members here can vouch for that. also, you said you had $2000 to buy my wheels, but had to spend $500 to buy 2 tires. then you asked if i could drop the price to $1500...WHY WOULD I GIVE YOU MORE OF A DISCOUNT??? what was i supposed to do other than tell you "give me a call when you get it figured out"? i totally don't understand the point of you being pissed off at me. i didn't rip you off, i didn't make you spend $500, i certainly am not the one who ruined your little vacation trip.

and for the record, i've helped many ppl out with questions on this forum. i've never been shitty towards anyone for absolutely no reason. I EVEN OFFERED TO INSTALL THE VOLKS ON YOUR CAR WHEN YOU CAME TO PICK THEM UP. i figured why have you spend $$ on someone to install the wheels and **** them up, when i could just put them on for you.

don't be pissed off at me for YOUR problems. there is no reason for me to help you out. i am not your friend. just because we have the same car doesn't mean i have to be obligated to help you out.

It's bad luck you got a flat, but that's what AAA is for.

I'm sorry, but I don't usually have 3 hours to blow helping someone I don't know. I may have made the drive for the 2g price but since Dan didn't have access to a car you can't really fault him there.

I'm going to side with Dan on this one. He gave you a price, you failed to arrive to pick up the goods. I don't see how it's his fault.

Let's put this in perspective:

If you're on your way to walmart to pick up $9 t-shirts and run out of gas halfway there, do you call them out for shitty customer service?

I think I missed a fine point here.... and to not further the drama, but to just gain some clarification. Was he offered more money, less money, or the same?

I would've made the trip, if I was physically able, but for 3/4 the amount we originally agreed to? Game over.

If I was the seller and had been offered compensation for some of the gas spent driving 1.5 hours both way, I would have done it. Otherwise, I'd be getting screwed. Sorry about the bad situation, but I don't blame him.

Indeed it is a little bit different now that we know a few more details.

originally, i only talked to this kid for several minutes. the rest of the time, i was dealing with his mother. the price was $2000, when his mother called me about the tire situation, she offered $150 for me to come out to Delaware with the Volks. Honestly, an extra $150 isn't worth for me to drive out 1.5 hours, spend time on the side of a road putting on 4 wheels, then drive back another 1.5 hours. then he calls me back telling me about how he spent all this money on stock tires just to get his car on the road and asked me if i could drop the price on the wheels to $1500. that's basically asking me to compensate for his loss on tires he didn't want to spend money on. doesn't make any sense.

i'm an auto technician and i usually charge people $60/hr (half of the rate most shops around here charge). so, 3 hours total to drive, pretty much a four wheel rotation (1 hour charge for working on the ground without proper tools). that's 4 hours...so technically, she/he would have to pay me $240 on top of the $2000. if they just drove to my house (where i have my tools), i would've just done it for the sake of being thankful for buying me wheels.
