as suggested earlier , premix can make a difference . But you need to dose it in at quite high concentrations to get any effect .
Latest thinking is you have to be at 200:1 or higher to make any noticable difference.

I'd say anywhere between 250-280miles on average, (till the gas light), an extra 20-30 miles riding the needle.

My mileage 2 cents:

1. I ALWAYS get between 21-22 mpg. I'd get better higway mileage, but, well, I drive faster.

2. I think the RX8 is particularly thirsty when idling. Avoid red lights.

3. The cheapest way to improve your gas mileage is to adjust your driving habits. Don't acceralate unless you need to. Don't brake unless you need to. This has a lot to do with red lights. If you can make it, go for it. If you can't, downshift.

I've noticed with cooler weather, my exhaust sounds better.. Neat uh? We get those cool nights in Miami rarely, but those days sure make it worth it..

Since my Aug.04 delivery of my 8 I knew at the beginning that gas consumption would be, on the average, moderately high so I decided at that time to except it as part of what would be the exception of owning this car, and I've delt with it reasonably well despite the raging gas prices G.W. put upon us, but I still love my ride and to this day, find people asking me how I like my 8 and my response is that you just have to get behind the wheel to make that true decision for your self.

Just curious, are automatic rx8s supposed to get better mileage than manuals?

Theoretically a manual should always get better mileage than an auto due to the slippage in an auto . However in practice manuals get less because they are more fun and you tend to step on the gas more

Recently I was curious to know if my gas mileage was due to my heavy right foot or could I achieve EPA estimates.

Well I followed the recommended shift points, kept it under 3700 rpm (for the most part) between shifts and was able to achieve 17.3 mpg in mixed driving. Also tried it in pure highway driving (one tank) and got 24 mpg.

So my conclusion? The car is capable of achieving EPA ratings but is so fncking boring as to be ridiculous.

I am back to driving it like I want and mileage be damned. I still get about 16mpg in mixed driving so the extra 1.3 mpg to be bored outta my skull is just not worth it.

That said, all you owners who continuously complain about poor mpg, try the experiment and qyb.
