Flooded x 3 update

Ok so I got my RX8 back which was flooded due to carbon buildup. Now I am experiencing noticeably weak starts. Car turns over but takes a bit of time. I have a BHR ignition that I'm waiting on so let's get that out of the way. My battery is 6 months old (POS stock) which was replaced the second time it flooded along with spark plugs and wires. What should I do till I get my ignition kit? Will an Optima battery help with my cold starts? Thanks again fellas.

Might be time for a compression check.

Compression won't effect the cranking speed...so if it is cranking slowly it is electrical...either a bad connection, bad battery, wire or the starter itself.

Check the connections first...especially the grounds to the engine....and try that...you can easily test the battery to check the voltage and output ( take it to Autozone or the like )

I thought that by weak start he meant it would crank but not turn over. Having had previous issues with carbon buildup, it seems possible he might have low compression.

Sorry..I wasn't questioning you...just that if it was cranking slow.....

Compression check would be warranted too, especially if it cranks OK..but doesn't start

No the car turns over, but it's a long crank...will check out the electrical. I also had a compression test done on the second flood and my engine passed at that time of service. I may go to another dealer and have an additional test performed.

Have you had the upgraded "fast" starter installed? The old 04 starters turned the engine REALLY slowly. Like 200rpm. I put on an upgraded "fast" starter and that little SOB spins the engine a **** load faster...probably closer to 275-300rpm. Makes the thing start in about 1 second versus 2-4 that it used to take.
