Auto to manual swapped
2. Sometimes the engine can get bogged down at really low RPMs and start making it feel like its shaking. But 30mph in 3rd shouldn't be low enough RPMs to make it do that (with a manual transmission atleast. Not sure about auto.) What RPM is it usually at when this happens?
idk how i missed this... but this has happened to me twice since thursday. a member said its bad sparks/coils/wires. i have new sparks, wires, and 1 new coil.
whats odd is the second time it happened, i'd already been driving around for a good while already.. but i turned on cruise control at just the right spot, and it was going up and down and stopped when i turned it off, and then i tried again and it was fine.. kind of unexplainable, but you arent alone

Pretty obvious which is which. ones on the left and doesn't move much, the other is in the middle, huge, and is all over the place lol

p.s. i hate it when people who dont know much about the rotary do things like that to the car i.e. babying it.. not checking the oil often.. doing what they did to yours.. it even says 5w-20 on the cap, and they should at least check for synthetic or not.. sigh
p.s.s. i dont know how to use multiple post replies fml

Because synthetic oil kills the engine? Don't forget, Elf just passed 200k miles on his original engine and ran synthetic oil the whole time. But hey, if you're that scared it'll blow your engine up, all the synthetic will be gone after a few oil changes.

I don't believe I was saying that... If by what you said meant I was proclaiming that synthetic oil is bad for rotary engines, I don't see where I said that anywhere at all, nor was I the one bringing up that its bad for the engine, I was just giving a pointer in what could or should be done to get it out, its nothing more than an opinion, that's all. Personally, I stick to Mazda's recommended non synthetic 5w-20. And I'm going off of things I have read recently about synthetic oil and what it can do *supposedly*. I'm not trying to recommend anything other than that. Plus, if his 8 has been running the whole time on synthetic, then a little bit of it cycling through the engine mixed with the recommended oil won't do as much damage to it if the damage has already been done, if any at all. Lastly, judging from your join date, you've had at least 6 years of experience with rotaries. I, on the other hand, didn't even know this kind of engine existed until about 5 months ago when I got my car. I knew about the car, drove it in Need For Speed.. But nothing about the engine. I'm only eighteen, so I'm pretty much newb at everything I guess, but a very good driver.. And before you think I'm just some kid, I have a full time job and I'm currently paying off my amazing car.

Please just give your opinion next time instead of immediately going into disliking an individual for sounding not too bright. Help us newbs learn faster, not make us feel like retards ftl. Thanks

Carbon, you hitting the bottle again?
sigh... It's called an evacuator and you can get them really cheap... and they take all the pain out of an oil change. I've been using this one for about 3 years on all of my vehicles.
Oil changes take me about 15 minutes. It's a rotary... it burns oil by design. Learn it, live it, love it

Figs,... With the shaking feeling, if you are trying to keep it steady at 2.5k RPMs or lower then it could just be shaking because the engine is getting kinda bogged down from low revs... Give it a little more gas (maybe up to around 3k RPM) and see if the shaking goes down as the revs increase... I know that with mine if I am trying to keep it at a steady speed under 2.5k RPMs then it will start acting like that a little bit.

Ok, confused.... Atfirst I thought figs was talking about the fuel gauge and superhypered was talking about the RPMs. Now I am not sure haha... If the fuel gauge is jumping around, that isn't normal. If the RPM gauge is jumping around, that is normal...

Also, gotta put some tape over that airbag light like i should on the coolant light lol
I'll keep an eye out to see if its just bogging or if its just being stubborn. More than likely I'll just keep it in second
Anyways, I need some humor, anyone else ever get some condensation in their headlights/tailights? I swear all i need is some fish and i got an aquarium

Okay, I'm trying to figure this out. I have an '04 auto with the upgraded starter. Battery is less than 8 months old. Just replaced the coils last week. Spark plugs were replaced at the same time as the battery. Just changed the oil. Mazda told me my cat was "out of emissions" so I'm replacing that as we speak. Going to change the spark plug wires next. All this work, and I'm still having issue with long starts after shutting it down warm. Nothing is more frustrating and embarrassing than being at a gas station and having to start it up to 3-6 times to just get the engine going. However, if I wait at least 20-30 minutes, the car will start up in less than 4-6 seconds. What's the deal here? Is it something out of my control? Is it a lack of compression? What's the next step I should take? Would having a clogged cat contribute to a long start? Also, would it not be recommended to fill up at the gas station with the car on so I don't have to deal with the repeated starts?

92,000...getting close
I'm afraid that Mazda is going to pull some **** and say I don't have any maintenance records, i.e. oil changes. I do that all myself. Didn't realize I was supposed to keep all the receipts until I started browsing this board.

Since the coils and plugs have recently been changed, and you have the upgraded starter, and a new battery, and it is warm starts, I would say it unfortunately does sound like low compression... I think compression would be more likely to be your problem than the cat judging from the symptoms... Go to the dealer and get a compression test done... How many miles are on your car? If you have under 100k then the engine will still be under warranty if compression is your problem.
And no, DO NOT fill up the tank with the car running... Horrible idea, haha
Edit: just saw the above post... Definitely go on and get the compression test done before you go over 100k miles... And some people have no problem getting the warranty without maintenance records. Others do. It really just depends on the dealer a lot of the time... So you may still be able to get one under warranty

So he was continually mixing, and changing oils, weights, brands, and probably syn vs dino.
This car almost doesn't care what mo you use compared to piston with valves lubrication, but premixing really works here, and doesn't really do much on a piston engine.

Here is a question about my '08 MT: Ever since I bought it new the best milege I got from it is 260 from 14 gallons (~18.5mpg), and that's during highway cruising only. My normal milage is somewhere around 160 miles a tank (~11.4mpg) and my last fill up I went down to almost 9mpg. Having said that I do redline the car a lot and spin my tires when no one is looking, but is this low of a milage normal?! I have a mazdaspeed CAI, RB exhaust, otherwise stock.
