Hey guys, im looking into buying an RX8 this summer, I've heard these cars have some problems but I will purchase one if the problems aren't too bad. I will most likely end up getting an 04/05 six speed and your input would be appreciated. Thanks

Couple points:
-I'm not going to tell you if the problems aren't too bad, because for me they are not, however my neighbour would fail huge
-Don't buy a Automatic from 04/05 - They have a four port engine and a lot less power.
-If you don't like doing maintenance or have a very tight budget .... move along these aren't the droids you're looking for.

Red = 290cc
Yellow = 380cc
Blue = 480cc

I found this in the Mazda Workshop manual....
Why doesn't the cc numbers match 290/380/480 ....

That's what I thought they were as well? <shrug>

ok dumb question

are flames restricted with a custom exhaust? it seems that people get bigger flames with a proper rx8 exhaust??

I would imagine that the gas velocity is slower on a 3 inch system compared to the stock 2.5 inch ..... could be wrong tho

Because are you are listing the cc for every 15sec.
The 290/380/480 is the cc a minute.
Take your numbers and multiply them by 4 and you'll see that they are close.

Biggest restriction is the cat.
I have a cat-back with 3" pipes and get good size flames.

As always, Jon is absolutely correct

To add to Jon's response, the reason you would see bigger flames on some cars versus others comes down to the tuning of the car. Referring to cars with midpipes (i.e. CAT delete) If the car has a custom tune, the tune is mapped so that the car runs leaner, so the flames will be smaller/less common. If the car just has a midpipe without a tune (still mapped to the OEM tune), the car is still going to be running rich, so more fuel will be dumped causing the flames to be larger due to there being more fuel in the exhaust to be burned. So, if a midpipe has been installed to delete the CAT, it comes down to the cars tune to determine how intense the flames will be; the catback really doesn't matter so much, cause if the fuel is lit, it is going out the exhaust tips one way or another

York: I am not that experienced with the receipt acronyms from the manufacturer, so if I were you I would call the service dept at any Mazda dealership and simply just ask them what the terms mean. I would guess this should take only a few minutes and then you would have all of your questions answered.

a little dumb question lol.
So my car is missing Under Cross Members( picture attached). these two under the cat ( i have the bigger one from the picture)
I found that they are pretty cheap used.
So i can buy them.
but these two pieces of steel do anything to our cars? I have to have them?

The two braces help to reduce body twisting due to the exhaust tunnel.
Do you need them... no, especially for daily driving.
I've had mine off for several years (because of my MazSport midpipe) and have never experienced a problem.

Would adding another grill behind the oem grill affect amount of air flow going to an AEM CAI ??

I want to add this so water does not get to the filter during touchless car washes . So im thinking of creating something to block the water but im afraid it will block air flow.

If you are running the AEM the water is more likely to be coming from the gap betqween hood and bumper than through the grill . You need to re-direct the water (i used silicone) to drop away from the filter .
