Seems like you WANT to pay $700-800 to some guy you don't even know, and you don't know if he'll rebuild your engine right. Screw that..I'd be milking it out of mazda. That's some dumb logic if you ask me.

You will only have to pay for the diagnostic and possibly the compression test, but after they see it has low/no compression you should be reimbursed for that cost and they replace the motor under warranty. They will not tear the motor down, their techs just aren't gonna rebuild a motor there, it has to get sent off the the rebuild center in VA before it gets torn apart. Just get the rebuild motor from the dealer and call it a day or week, that's probably how long it will take for them to do the swap anyways.

Just tell them the symptoms of why you think the engine is going a little downhill. I wouldn't walk in and tell them the story of what's his name, as they don't care. Just say you're getting power loss/hard starts and you wanted to find out what's wrong. Maybe suggest a compression test.

They are replacing my engine now (second time), I never had to pay a diagnostic fee.

Alright so... I just got my 8 towed over to mazda and dropped it off. They took a quick look at it and I know it's a bad apex seal but I was playing stupid. He says it seems like a misfiring problem which is what I thought before but they'll see once they do a thorough check. they said they'll call me later today and let me know. the only smart thing i suggested was a compression test.

Ya haha I could tell he was just another mazda tech and not a rotary specialist or something cause I saw him check out the car when I first got there and he had some stupid confused look on his face lol. Well... I got a call from them and they said they had bad news and good news. "the engine is shot, gone. good news is its generally covered under its extended warranty and they can get a new engine in there for me." at this point I was like no way thats great lol. he told me to "bring in any service records I have" and i told him well I just bought the car in Feb. and I've only had a couple oil changes thus far and asked is that going to be a problem? he said it shouldn't be a problem but I can't say yes it'll be okay just yet and just bring in what you got. The problem I see now tho is that I believe I have the paperwork from the first oil change from right when I got the car but the second once (the last one) was done by me. I figure I'll just bring in the first one and say I can't find the second one... do you think that is sufficient enough? If not what do you guys think I can do?

Wohoo, RX8Club saves the day!

Good thing too, if you had allowed Mr. Jason McDonald to tear down your engine, I'm pretty sure that it would still be in pieces and totally ruined, plus you'd have no warranty left after that. He's all talk, I can practically guarantee it. I bet he's "working" on lots of things that never get to the point of actually working. I know the type.
