Try something called Frigi-Fresh (sp?). It's supposed to take smells out of AC.

^^^

what she said. I've never tried it myself, but the Car Talk guys recommend it.

Check your condensate drain & make sure it's not plugged up. Also, try turning off the a/c and just running the fan for a few minutes before you shut down to try to dry out the evaporator coil.

There are worse things - in my old car, unless I did that, the a/c would smell like a urinal that hadn't been flushed in several weeks. gah.

That dead fish I put under your hood at Rick and Ronnies seems to be doing the trick.

You have to look real hard to find it.

Now that you have bathed, changed your shoes and socks and seen your local doctor -

Try running your heater for about 30 minutes, then your AC, then repeat and see if the heat will dry out some of the mold, bacteria or whatever.

There is probably a lot of tree pollen or other organic fluff in your area and the whole East coast is much wetter than normal.

Change the filters and take a close look at your intake, Swab out the intake with some rubbing alcohol (no, you can't drink this kind) and make sure the port is dry before you run your AC. Then, with your AC off, take a hair dryer, and blow into into your out ports, and intake port.

If this doesn't clear it

Look under your battery and all of your plastic containers: sometimes leaves and stuff gets dropped down there and needs to be vaccumed out- if your area has insects and rodents, or if the inside of the hood is damp, after a run (so the area under your hood is still warm), place a couple of moth ***** on the metal brackets on either side, over the screws - close the hood and leave overnight, these will vaporize and chase a lot of pests out and also act as an antifungal. If you are real lucky you can find the cedar scented ones that are prepackaged in little 'tea-bags'. Open the hood in the morning and removed the residues (if any) and wipe the area out - don't run with chuncks of mothballs in the engine compartment - they can burn. Don't put them on the plastic covers, They may stain.

Check your fire wall material - if it gets wet it has a lot of organic material that can cause problems - a hair dryer can help, but you may even have to change it out (a real pain as its about $100 a panel and you will have to pull the AC. Your dealer can charge up to $500 for the proceedure. This is covered in part by comprehensive insurance.

You are not alone in your misery there is another thread on this - he has a different bug but same problem - his smells like sour milk.
