I had to have a "new" engine at 55000 miles. Its not a completely new engine, it is a rebuilt or remanufactored one. The *** service manager kept stressing to me that it is not a recall it is a warranty. I knew that. I am just wondering what is different about the rebuilt engine that will keep us from having the same problems again. I wish they could do something about the flooding issue. I am always wondering, Is it going to start or have to be towed back to the garage to be de-FLOODED.

The "***" service manager is right. It is warranty work not a recall. Recalls are generally safety related. Warranty is to cover quality defects. The is obviously a quality defect. They have dine a bunch to improve the flooding problem. Updated starter and PCM calibration drastically reduced flooding issues. Your new motor should be very hard to flood. Just don't turn it off cold.

As far as fixing the problem my opinion is that you need to premix to address the problem. The 09s have an updated design but none of our remans have the new designs.

Take off the chip and any other after market part so you don't get any ****, try a different dealer and play ignorant. Tell them you never had any after market parts if they ask. Ignorance is bliss in this case.

Without knowing any particulars about your situation I suspect your car is flooded and the dealer is an idiot. They don't change your rotors. Nor would your rotors truly be a problem if, in fact, you have a bad motor.

Also typically a bad motor will still start and run unless you've done something catastrophic to it.

Fixed it for you Shaun.

To Tillman:

^...............dealer doesn't know what he's doing! I suggest you search this site for "flooding" and follow some of the directions. Then.......you will have to figure out why it flooded. Did someone move it a short distance and turn it off? Do you know your battery is good?
While you are at it, better list your year, mileage, last spark plug change, last coil change. BUT........start another thread and we'll try to help! This one is for warranty questions etc.

^ If you are a DD and have inclement weather, you need it. I'm willing to bet it has kicked in and you just haven't realized it.

before i got the 8 i used the FD as a daily even in the snow, and yes it has kicked in but i did realize it and hate it if i could i would permanently disable it but i don't want to give mazda a reason to void the engine warranty. when it starts sliding i am already counter steering out of habit and then it cuts the power and sends me in the dirrection i am counter steering.

In other words, you actually know how to drive On the RX8 you can hold down the DSC button for a few seconds to turn it off. Some people have also made a switch to turn it on and off. I'm surprised someone hasn't done that for the FD as well.

the only driving assist that the FD has is anti lock brakes they didn't come with traction control or even a rev limiter u can literally rev them till they blow ( i wonder how many idiots have accomplished this)

Anyone have a problem with the warrenty like myself?

I lost compression in my rear rotor, i have an 04 with 64k. I provided all oil information and other maintenance. They said that I provided enough infor, but the regional service rep denied my warrenty claim due to an oil change having 5w20 synthetic. Seriously? I feel like I'm getting owned here. Anyone else think this is complete BS?

it is bs are there any other Mazda dealers around? They could be lying about he regional service rep, the dealers don't get much money from doing warranty work so they will try to get out of it if possible.

Go into the dealership and ask them Where in my 2004 manual does it say "DO NOT USE SYNTHETIC" and why was no notice mailed to your house informing you of this.

When they can't give you an answer, tell them they will be providing you with the services.

If it is still a no go, call that Mazda 1 800 number

Just call MazdaNA in Irvine, CA. 5w20 dino is "recommended", not "required" for warranty purposes.

Your not but it's reasoning is a bit strange. The below is from the 2009 manual.

Do not use either synthetic or semi- synthetic motor oil. Otherwise engine starting performance could worsen.

So it looks to me they still cannot void your warranty for using a heavier oil. They could however say starting issues are due to it.

Post Further info.

The dealership told me that the Regional Service Rep disapproved it and still will not allow it. I then called Firestone to inform them of this matter and they are looking into covering the bill. They sent a third party member to inspect the damage to ensure the said oil was the reason. Now I have to do the whole process again with them(sending service bills). The dealerships around here in Hampton Roads, Va all said that synthetic is not authorized. I have yet to find anywhere that it states this for my vehicle. Heck, I didnt even get my papers saying the engine warrenty was extended. I will be going to the dealership today, I find this matter absurd. So much for Mazda "will not walk away from a customer."

You need to call MazdaUSA dude. The Regional Service Rep is a **** tard. MazdaUSA can and will allow your engine to be replaced. Call MazdaUSA and fight until you get a new engine. Do not let them screw you out of free work. There is no documentation stating that you cannot use synthetic oil. If the dealer is telling you that there is, ASK THEM FOR A HARD COPY. SSP 77 and your Manual will be your best friends.

Not the right number, but they should be able to get you there 1-800-222-5500

The Reman-Engine you're getting has more than 80% brand new parts. and in some cases, its actually completely new (even it saids its a Reman)

There is nothing really wrong with the engine itself. Its just that Mazda under estimate the lubrication requirements of the engine.

Its "kinda" ok right now, but for me the Oil injection rate is still too low(like what, 3 or 6? max I think its 30), Emission concerns maybe ?

Mine never flood.

even I purposely shut it off cold , like 20 degrees kind of cold.

Mazda disallowed all Mazda dealerships from opening the Engine.

Because 99% of the dealership people does NOT know how to properly rebuild a Rotary engine.

I assume the service guy mean the "rotors" inside the engine, either way, its bs and no they can't do it.

In the old days, the Factory Service Manual actually teach you how to rebuild Engines. It tells you exactly step by step on how to check its spec. but not anymore. sad.

How does Synthetic causing problems ? They ******* sell Synthetic oil in Japan for Rotary. and there is NO FREAKING MAGIC about Mazda's own "Synthetic Rotary oil". It probably just a Idemitsu Re-badge.

Its just sad that MNAO is doing these ****. no wonder Rotary has such a bad name in the States, there simply too many morons working in the company.

If I were you I will ask to speak to the "so called" regional Service rep directly, preferably face to face at the dealership. and before you go, make sure you print the "Mazda Japan Synthetic oil" page out and throw it at his/her face and ask him/her "How can Synthetic oil cause problems when you sell this product in Japan?"

if he still says no, well, just tell him a Class Action Lawsuit is coming. Hell I will be the first one to sign up. Just to force MNAO to stop this utter crap about Synthetic.

I bought my rx8 about 8 weeks ago from a private seller. Its an 04 with now currently 16k miles on it... well within the warranty for the next 2 years. I did not know about this extension to the engine warranty, and neither did the original owner who sold me the car.

If something were to happen within this warranty, do i just show up at a mazda dealer, or do i have to apply first... im not entirely sure how this works.

Mazda mailed out all the info to original owners, so very strange he was unaware.

But anyway, Yes, all you do is show up at the dealership. They'll do a compression test and if it fails same you get a replacement.
