To me it's less about clearing your name, then it is by excelling an older platform vehicle into great numbers at the 1/4 mile. Almost a rejuvenation in the performance world of RX8's.

So please, prove us wrong.

if he's halfway guilty, then that means he's halfway innocent, which means you could've just stuck with "you are innocent until proven guilty"....... :D just trying to lighten the mood

Well, I will give you the benefit of the doubt. I would love for an NA RX8 to run a legitimate 13.7 quarter with your mods. Please do it again and have someone record it.

in the end who cares..rx8 is not exactly a 1/4 mile car..it shines on the racetrack and twisty roads..and that is where most of the driving fun is anyways..in the corners!

my other car has almost 400 ft lb of torque and it feels great when you get on it but it doesn't take much skill to make it go fast in the straight line. you just need to make sure where you going to end up :-)

People who say it takes no skill to go in a straight line have never drag raced.

If he really did run the fastest time ever for a NA RX-8 at the drag strip on his first drag strip run ever then he is the man. I don't think a lot of people here realize what a feat this is, if true.

I will be going to the drag strip in the next couple of weeks and I will be spraying a 55 shot and I have basically the same mods as him and If I run a mid to high 13 I will be happy and that is on the bottle and I have made more trips down the 1320 than I can remember.

The RX8 is not drag car but drag racing is still legal fun.

Sadly, there is some skill when it comes to drag racing, that's when you see slower cars beat faster cars, is because of that. But it's still so much of the car, versus on an actual course, you've got a lot more to do.

Personally.. I think 13-15 seconds, or however long, just isn't long enough, that's my feeling on it. I mean, hell, you do 4 runs, just to get a minute of time running? Ah well, haha. To each their own.

I hope that 13.7 is completely possible, because I've never looked into the 1/4 time of the Rx8, believe it or not, and someone asked me the other day, and I said I had no clue, probably 13.8 or so. Haha, help save my ***, will ya?

Either way, it's not like I'll be taking mine there anyway.

I went to the track the other day and Michael Schumacher was there in a Porsche GT3 . It was my first time at the track so I thought - bugger it i'll take him on . We raced for a good 10 minutes and by the end i had passed him and got ahead by a good 1/4 of a lap or so .
Don't think I'll go back to the track again - no need . You guys were right - the 8 really is great on the track - I guess I'm a pretty good driver as well though

haha nice brettus. to OP its easy to bluster and its easy to photoshop a time slip, but its hard to produce a video of your car doing what it would need at least 250WHP to do and probably some racing slicks. Given your mods and your admitted lack of any skill, intense skepticism is about the best I could give you. And then you insult anyone who ever drag races for real. Not that I'm in that camp but seriously if you did this prove it at the strip this weekend with a video, if not admit it.

"Maybe your car is turbo'd without your knowledge."

That is one of the funniest things I ever heard!

Maybe it's an Autobot. I would think an Autobot RX8 would be faster than a stock RX8. Energon is much higher in octane.

Sadly, this story sounds more decepticon to me.

While the 8 is a fun car, the main reason is because it's so easy to drive hard. The 8 has little muscle to keep up or beat many non sporty cars. Unless you're driving it hard most v6s will keep up or beat you on the highway. The problem is that with the low torque you just don't get much pull and a torquey v6 will be gone by the time you downshift 2 times. This happens with me all the time on the highway. Just not enough passing power even when downshifting.

I don't think it's about big muscle so we could beat 370zs in a drag, but I do think it should have enough power that it comes down to the driver in a drag race. Then when we have the better track handling we could beat them. Right now we can't even make it up on the track.

madza wants to be different right. i know this idea has been tossed around before. but i feel putting the madza speed 3 engine into the rx8 would be different and fast. think about it, who else sells a inline 4 turbocharged RWD car ? nobody.

I think Rotary > 4 cyl RWD in terms of uniqueness. Without the rotary, the car wouldn't have the same appeal.

Anyway, I am really hoping Terch is able to prove his run soon.

Mazda should've never sold the 8 without a turbo. The turbo should've been just to get the torque where it should've been. If a turbo 1.3 put out even 260 hp and over 200 lb of torque it would matter a lot. The torque would be down low and really affect acceleration. Also, it would be more modifiable. You would see over 300 hp 8 all over the road with bolt on upgrades. Mazda really dropped the ball on this one. They really put all of their eggs in the na engine without leaving room to go up. People talk about how 230 hp is a lot for a 1.3liter but if you look that's all Mazda can get out of it safely. This engine is maxed out. If 230 hp is all a maxed out engine can do then that is not a lot.

Just to even the playing field for terch here, because I could really care less if his numbers are real or not, your R/T can make a huge difference. I have seen people with an R/T over 1 second and I have seen others that can R/T at less than a 10th of a second all day long. So when your talking about the difference between 14.2 and 13.5 that 7/10th can easily just be someone is better at staging.

And to those who say it takes no skill to drag race you can say that when you have beaten the 10 second threshold. My 427 could do it, but it was not only a matter of driving the car. It was getting the tires hot, but not so hot you flat spotted them. It was also the staging battle. If you just line up and go your missing out on half the challenge in drag racing. If you want the best times, then you have to be good at the fight staging the car. Done properly you can gain some serious time if you win the battle at the front line.

yea reaction time only makes a difference in competition, you could lose with a better 1/4 mile time in NHRA because you were slower out of the gate.

If your the last one to stage your R/T can make a difference. Ive seen cars moving and in the process of staging when the tree went green.

I have never heard of this. I have drag raced at many tracks and the officials always make sure everyone is staged first.
