by the way someone mentioned the speedo being optimistic. I used my GPS and it was actually closer than other vehicles I have owned. It showed faster by only 2-3 mph.

GEE ok Mr. Beaver after that lets all get together and sing campfire songs.
Don't buy a sports car if you can't handle "breaking the speed limit"!

Caecil, I know it is legal as I have driven there before, so that is one less thing to worry about. How long did you keep that speed. How did the 8 behaved on long high speed trips. I am envious.

You people obviously are not getting the point of my posts. Its not that I am or expect you all to be goody two shoes. It is about the rules of the forum that allow us to post driver taken pictures going 100+ MPH and yet doesn't allow us to talk about running against other cars in dreaded street races because of the danger involved. For **** sake, look at what I had to say. How many f'ng threads have been or were threatened with locking for even a little mention of going faster than someone else.

I agree, 145 is a bit, no a lot risky, dangerous, and stupid. Being a husband, I don't want anything to happen to me since I have a family and want to live a long, happy life. Was I scared, HELL YES, was it fun, HELL YES, will I hurry to do it again, HELL NO.
I not going to tell you that I didn't enjoy myself, and that I wasn't high fiving my buddy next to me, but when it was over, and I thought of all the things the _could_ have happened (jail/death/destroyed car), I chalked it up to another dumb stunt I did just because "I could." And thank GOD that I did it without incident.
There were three kinds of responses I read here... The excited and encouraging posts from folks who wanted to do it themselves. I hope nothing happens to them (jail/death/destroued car) and that they are safe. Again, I can't encourage you to do it, in fact, I'd advise against it now, since the consequences from the "WHAT IF" definitely aren't worth it. The sceptics, which there will always be some of. I have no response for them. And the people who did not approve of what I did (my wife being one of these). I don't really have a response for them either, only because I KNOW what I did was dangerous, illegal, and a lot stupid. A few years ago, I would have told you that those three reasons would BE the reason why I did it. Now, they aren't.
I feel a bit fulfilled now. I did a paid track day experience a few months ago and drove the 150+ average lap speeds. Now, I don't have the urge anymore to do it in my own vehicle. Will I bring something like this back up on the list, probibly not.

Legokcen, I have never been up that high in the 8, but I have seen similar numbers in my FD. I have also been next to other cars (including maybe a Viper, maybe not) and lit the tires up and rowed the gears on city streets. Both experiences are exhilirating, fun and not very bright. I am not judging you, as long as drivers don't take anyone out who is not involved with the race or high speed run, I have no problems with the behavior. It is one of the reasons we get quick cars. My point only had to do with forum rules.
Honestly the thing that slowed me down (especially with passengers) was when Dan Snyder was killed this summer in Danny Heatley's Ferarri and no alcohol was involved, only high speed. I am a big hockey fan, so I paid attention to the story pretty closely. I also have given friends and family rides in my FD that have left the passenger shaking for as much as 15 to 20 minutes after a ride. When the Snyder thing happened, I realized what killing or maiming a friend or loved one would do to me for the rest of my life. Especially for the sake of impressing someone.

What size tires do you have?
at 7450RPM in 6th gear with a 225/45 18 tire you would be going an estimated 153MPH
In 5th you would be doing 129MPH
In 4th: 109MPH
In 3rd: 78MPH
In an Auto in 2nd gear you would be doing 83.86MPH
147KMH is 91.34MPH
He most probably was doing 147MPH in 6th gear since drag isn't calculated

Final Ratio on both Auto and Manual is 4.444 you can find this info on MAZAUSA.com under specs.

*sigh* this thread got ugly.
The reason we don't allow street racing posts in here is already listed 500 times in the "suggestions" forum, so I'm not going over that again. It's not up to us to tell someone how fast they can go, but it is up to us to keep this a civil place, which street racing posts are not conducive to. Closing this, before it gets worse.
