someone do some math. what would the rpms be in 4th gear at 90mph? Either way, he was going super fast to be taking pics.

Man, I occasionaly pass 100 when I am trying to get around semis on the highway, but I have never pushed it higher intentionally.

It's usually more like, toss it in 4th and stand on it, shift into 5th- 6th until I pass the vehicle in question... glance at the speedometer and say "whoops... gdamn!", and slow down.

I mean really the difference between 75 and 110 feels like nothing, which is scary, yet comforting at the same time.

I remember the 1st time i had it up to 100 i couldn't believe it. I had no idea i was really going that fast...I was going down one of the main roads in town just passing people and wondering why everybody was going so slow..then i looked down..needless to say i still love the car.

Redline in third is 93 mph. I can't remember where 4th is at 90 tho. I'll let you know on my way home today.

I love how we can't talk about running against other cars on the street, but we can talk about basically doubling or tripling the speed limits and then show pics. I am NOT bashing anyone who posts top speeds, I simply find it hypocritical that since doubling the speed limit is also considered reckless driving, like street racing, that it is okay to post about while smoking some Civic or whatever isn't.

Thanks for the proselytizing, Senseny.

Let me explain it to you. Racing can't be talked about here because it is illegal and dangerous. However, going for top speed and taking a photo is OK because it is illegal and dangerous.

the difference is that we're not sitting here going, "awe dude, today i killed some slow *** civic..my car is so much better than everyone else's!"

Insted we're sitting here discussing the top speed of the COMMON car on the site..(it IS an rx8 site ya know..) so we're actually just talking about a subject on the car..nothing wrong with that..

Your welcome Phineas, anytime, proselytizing is in my blood. However, I am really not attempting to get anyone to change anything, not to mention I have certainly exceeded the speed limit by similar numbers and maybe even ran against other cars once in a while from a stoplight. I just want to point out what I consider to be a pretty big inconsistency in the rules about what we can post here.

Drivenbyspeed, I was under the impression that "kill" stories are not permitted here because of the dangers involved with street racing. There is plenty of smack talk here about our cars and other cars, so I don't see how "kills" would make that different.
Another site I frequent has a kills section that doesn't get to much of the kind of talk you are referring to. Or maybe this site doesn't want that kind of talk because our 8's aren't going to beat many fast cars anyway--J/K.

I'm with Senseny on this.

I'll admit the thread is fascinating, but I was kinda wondering why everyone was being so "attaboy!" about it.

Sure, we all feel the temptation. Sure, we all yield to it to some degree from time to time. And sure, everyone ends up occasionally going waaaay faster than they intended when passing people. The car is very good, and makes going fast feel slow.

But deliberate top speed runs down public highways? I mean, come on... spend $200, take it to a track event, and you can run all day long as fast as you dare

I like your edit Phineas, it made my point in a much funnier manner and it was certainly more concise.

nice one legokcen! I've gone faster (156mph) but taking photo is not easy to do! here is mine at the rx8 meeting here in my country (three rx8s on the row doing 100mph). Its wasn't easy 'cause the road was bumpy and I had to aim, meaning not looking forward for a few secs... :D

Fastest I've had mine is 100mph on the 7 mile bridge here in the florida keys. I have to say if it weren't for the speedo saying that's how fast I was going i wouldn't believe it. My favorite thing is driving around here I don't know of anyone else here in the Key West area that has one.

Gotta love the sound of that rotary reving up!

I see that fast stories are shunned somewhat.

That means I shouldn't post the 172mph pic of my friend on his GSX-R 1000?

My next picture is going to be of me doing 45 mph down the road leading to my neighborhood. I'll try to get the 45 mph speed limit sign in the picture as well. I'm going to have to get my passenger to take the picture though since I'll have both hands firmly planted in the 2 o'clock and 10 o'clock positions.

WOW, maybe the RX-8 DOES help improve international relations! :D

Our military should be driving these around Iraq instead of the HMVEE. ( I hope I didn't offend any of the military personnel on this list. I'm very proud and supportive of you all. )

Ok, I'm reporting you to the mods. What you're doing is very, very dangerous. Everyone knows that the hands should be on the 3 and 9 o'clock positions.
